Engineering Supervisor - Power

The Opportunity Ulteig, and its affiliated companies, are hiring for an Engineering Supervisor (ES) position within the Substation department in Costa Rica. This role will focus on leading a subset of the teams' engineers and technicians to foster on-the-job leadership development and allow for additional and efficient team growth, while supporting projects. This individual will report to directly to the Substation Associate Director or Technical Manager, interacting closely with other corporate business units such as sales, marketing, account management, and project management. The Engineering Supervisor is a self-starting technical leader with expertise in leadership, communication, and resource management. This position is a great example of Ulteig’s commitment to investing in our employees’ professional and leadership development. **Please note that resumes must be submitted in English for the application to be considered** What You’ll Do Project Technical Lead - 70% Manages and leads all engineering activities during the proposal, design, and construction stages of projects that are assigned. Provides project oversight, including managing engineering scope according to technical contracts, developing change orders, and maintaining project schedules. Directs and coordinates activities of several disciplines and the Project Management group on a project of significant scope or a combination of large projects. Maintains high levels of quality and responsiveness to meet internal and external client requirements in alignment with company expectations. Oversees design activities of team members. Responsible for reviewing project drawings, calculations & specifications; assumes responsibility as needed. Management Responsibilities – 20% Provides strategic direction, leadership, and technical services oversight for employees on achieving individual, team, department, and organizational performance goals. Coaches, trains, and develops substation technical staff for growth and development opportunities. Facilitates weekly team meetings (bi-weekly at a minimum) and actively manages team resource planning Performs individual performance reviews, training, and professional development for team members. Business Development Responsibilities – 10% Participates and partners with members of the Sales team and engineers throughout the organization to promote revenue growth and expansion of services with existing and prospective clients. Supports proposal efforts by developing, providing resources, and reviewing proposals by working with the Proposal Development Team, Project Management group, and other departments. Maintains positive client relationships with existing clients. Additional duties may include tasks beyond what is listed, such as special projects, assisting colleagues, or new initiatives. A willingness to adapt to changing priorities and support team efforts enhances collaboration and growth opportunities. What We Expect from You Bachelor’s degree in electrical or civil engineering required from an ABET-accredited university or equivalent. CFIA or equivalent registration is required, or the ability to obtain licensure within 1 year is preferred. Must have an advanced English level (B2 or C1) 6+ years of experience in the Engineering field preferred Professional Engineer (PE) registration will be a plus. Ability to obtain within 1 year of hire, strongly preferred. Good knowledge or understanding of electrical substations, including high-voltage equipment, Protection and Control systems, Physical Substation (refers to the physical infrastructure and equipment that make up an electrical substation, such as transformers, circuit breakers, and protection systems), Grounding, Lightning protection, general services, etc. Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude Strong analytical and information management skills. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, public and external agencies. High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timeliness. Excellent presentation and verbal/written communication skills. Displays a high level of initiative and explores new opportunities while understanding the risk to the organization. Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and additional software knowledge depending on specialty Ability to work in a hybrid mode schedule: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home. Must possess strong verbal and written English communication skills (CEFR level B2–C1). You should be comfortable articulating complex ideas and collaborating effectively within a global professional environment. Must have authorization to work legally in Costa Rica for any employer.
