Responsibilities

Creative localization and English quality
-Serve as a senior English quality owner across assigned titles and workstreams, setting editorial standards and making defensible final recommendations.
-Translate, edit, and rewrite complex or high-impact Simplified Chinese content into polished English that recreates the intended meaning, tone, emotion, characterization, humor, rhythm, and gameplay clarity.
-Challenge literal, obvious, or inherited solutions when they do not work in English; explore alternatives, make bold but defensible decisions, and turn ambiguity or implementation constraints into better player-facing solutions.

Terminology, style, and narrative voice
-Develop and maintain terminology databases, style guides, character voice profiles, naming conventions, translation memories, and other linguistic assets that teams can apply consistently.
-Resolve terminology and style conflicts, document decisions and exceptions, and work with narrative, IP, design, and publishing stakeholders to preserve characterization, worldbuilding, tone, and gameplay meaning.

Review, mentorship, and leadership
-Review work produced by internal linguists and external partners, providing precise, actionable feedback that strengthens both the immediate text and future performance.
-Mentor and develop other linguists through feedback, quality calibrations, review discussions, onboarding support, and knowledge-sharing sessions that turn individual judgment into repeatable team standards.
-Where experience and department needs align, take on people management or broader discipline leadership, including goal-setting, capability building, and team development.

LQA and cross-functional delivery
Conduct in-game LQA across development and live-service builds, identifying, prioritizing, documenting, tracking, and verifying linguistic, functional, visual, and contextual issues.
Account for variables, tags, markup, character limits, input prompts, text layout, platform conventions, and runtime context; partner with relevant teams to diagnose root causes, close issues, and prevent recurrence.

Department-wide improvement
-Lead or contribute to cross-project initiatives involving quality frameworks, reviewer calibration, terminology governance, vendor quality, localization workflows, tooling, automated checks, localization readiness, and knowledge sharing.
-Look beyond established processes, analyze recurring quality problems, and propose inventive but practical improvements to source content, production workflows, linguistic assets, or localization systems.
-Help evaluate CAT, TMS, QA, automation, and AI-assisted tools with a focus on quality, security, and fit for purpose; represent English localization in cross-functional discussions and advocate for its requirements early in development.

What we are looking for

Native English speaker with exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and professional-level editorial judgment.
Professional working proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, including the ability to interpret nuanced source text and discuss linguistic or creative issues directly with Chinese-speaking stakeholders.
At least five years of professional game-localization experience, including substantial Chinese-to-English translation, editing, or linguistic-quality ownership.
Hands-on experience shipping and supporting at least one major, globally released live-service title, including recurring updates and long-term terminology or narrative continuity.
Demonstrated ability to edit across narrative, dialogue, gameplay, UI, system-oriented, and terminology-heavy content.
Strong in-game LQA experience, including severity assessment, clear issue reporting, stakeholder follow-through, and final verification.
Practical expertise with CAT tools, translation-management systems, terminology databases, translation memories, linguistic QA tools, and spreadsheet-based workflows.
Experience reviewing other linguists' work and delivering constructive feedback that improves quality and consistency.
Creative and intellectually curious, with a deep commitment to recreating the original player experience in English; willing to question obvious or inherited solutions and defend stronger alternatives.
Strong stakeholder communication and the ability to explain editorial decisions to both linguistic and non-linguistic partners.
Currently based in Shanghai or willing and able to relocate to Shanghai.

Preferred qualifications

Experience developing talent, or owning language quality across multiple projects.
Experience working across multiple game projects, ideally in China or with Chinese game-development organizations.
Experience creating or improving language-quality frameworks, review rubrics, reviewer-calibration practices, terminology systems, or vendor evaluation standards.
Familiarity with localization engineering, regular expressions, automated QA, scripting, structured text, or localization data analysis.

We are an equal opportunity employer that believes diverse backgrounds are key to bringing our concepts to life. If you're looking to play a key role in creating the best immersive virtual world experience for our users, we invite you to join our team.
