Position Overview

Fathom Management is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect to support complex financial and healthcare systems for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on Enterprise Architecture, healthcare claims processing, financial systems, cloud infrastructure, enterprise integration, and legacy modernization experience.

Particular emphasis will be placed on IBM Sterling B2B Integrator, EDI/X12 healthcare transactions, iFAMS, Azure infrastructure architecture, Red Hat OpenShift, legacy/mainframe environments, and enterprise integration platforms.

This position requires an architect who can work across technical and business domains, develop detailed architecture and infrastructure solutions, perform cost analysis, and confidently present architecture recommendations and business cases to executive stakeholders.

Current Technical Architecture Experience

Candidates must demonstrate recent, hands-on architecture experience in several of the following areas:

Healthcare & Financial Integration

The successful candidate will have strong experience architecting enterprise healthcare and/or financial integrations.

Experience should include, where applicable:

• EDI/X12 270/271 eligibility transactions
• EDI/X12 276/277 healthcare claims-status transactions
• EDI/X12 820 payment transactions
• Trading-partner integration
• IBM Sterling B2B Integrator
• Legacy and mainframe transaction processing
• Healthcare claims processing
• Electronic pharmacy verification/EVI
• Financial transaction processing
• Integration between modern APIs/services and legacy enterprise systems

Cloud & Infrastructure Architecture

The architect will support cloud modernization and enterprise infrastructure architecture, with particular emphasis on Microsoft Azure.

Responsibilities and experience include:

• Designing Azure infrastructure architectures
• Azure VM configuration and sizing
• Determining CPU, memory, capacity, and infrastructure requirements
• Developing infrastructure specifications
• Performing cloud infrastructure cost analysis
• Using Azure Cost Calculator or comparable tools to support architecture decisions
• Developing migration and modernization strategies
• Integrating cloud services with legacy enterprise environments
• Supporting secure, scalable, production-ready cloud architectures

Red Hat OpenShift & Legacy Modernization

The position requires experience with Red Hat OpenShift and containerized enterprise environments.

The successful candidate should be able to:

• Architect containerized enterprise solutions
• Support migration from legacy platforms to OpenShift
• Develop modernization roadmaps
• Evaluate legacy infrastructure and application dependencies
• Define infrastructure and application integration requirements
• Support enterprise migration from legacy environments into modern containerized architectures

Enterprise Architecture & Governance

Candidates should have experience using recognized Enterprise Architecture methodologies, including TOGAF or comparable frameworks.

Experience should include developing and presenting:

• Enterprise Architecture models
• Solution Architecture documentation
• Logical and physical architecture diagrams
• Integration architecture
• Infrastructure architecture
• Data models
• Technology roadmaps
• Modernization strategies
• Architecture alternatives
• Cost analysis

Key Responsibilities

• Develop enterprise, solution, application, infrastructure, and integration architecture.
• Architect modernization of legacy healthcare and financial systems.
• Design EDI/X12 transaction architectures using IBM Sterling B2B Integrator.
• Support healthcare claims, pharmacy verification, eligibility, claims-status, and payment-processing integrations.
• Support iFAMS and Federal financial system architecture.
• Design and document Azure cloud infrastructure.
• Develop VM sizing, CPU/capacity requirements, and infrastructure specifications.
• Perform or contribute to cloud infrastructure cost analysis and business-case development.
• Architect and support Red Hat OpenShift containerized environments.
• Develop legacy-to-OpenShift migration and modernization strategies.
• Design enterprise integration architectures involving ESB, Service Bus, and APIs.
• Evaluate and modernize legacy integration platforms, including Oracle Service Bus and related enterprise service-bus technologies.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, security, integration, and business teams.
• Develop architecture documentation and technical presentations.
• Present architecture recommendations, alternatives, costs, and business cases to executive stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across complex enterprise initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of relevant Enterprise Architecture / Solution Architecture experience.
• Hands-on enterprise architecture experience within complex enterprise environments.
• Healthcare payer, claims-processing, financial systems, or comparable enterprise domain experience.
• Hands-on IBM Sterling B2B Integrator experience.
• Strong EDI/X12 experience.
• Experience with healthcare claims transactions such as 270/271 and 276/277, with 820 payment transaction experience strongly required.
• Experience with iFAMS or comparable financial systems.
• Hands-on Azure architecture and infrastructure experience.
• Experience with Azure VM/infrastructure sizing and configuration.
• Experience performing infrastructure or cloud cost analysis.
• Hands-on Red Hat OpenShift experience.
• Legacy/mainframe integration experience.
• Enterprise ESB, Service Bus, and API integration experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to present technical architecture and business cases to executive audiences.
