About the role

At Tyro, we're all about pushing boundaries, embracing innovation and making things better for our customers. We're looking for an Enterprise Security Architect to help shape how we design, build and secure technology across our Payments, Banking and Health businesses.

You'll play a key role in embedding security into everything we do, working across cloud, applications, infrastructure, data and emerging technologies, including AI. This is an opportunity to influence important technology decisions, tackle complex security challenges and work with great people who value collaboration, curiosity and getting things done.

What you'll do

  • Shape Security Architecture: Define and evolve security architecture principles, standards, reference architectures and reusable patterns that support secure, scalable technology solutions across Tyro.

  • Embed Security by Design: Partner with solution architects, engineers, product and business teams to ensure security is considered from the outset and embedded throughout the technology delivery lifecycle.

  • Assess & Manage Risk: Conduct security architecture reviews, threat modelling and design assessments, identifying risks and recommending practical controls that balance security, innovation and business outcomes.

  • Secure Cloud & Emerging Technologies: Provide security guidance across AWS environments, applications, infrastructure, identity and data, including the secure adoption of AI-enabled solutions and cloud-native technologies.

  • Drive Security Assurance: Review the implementation of security controls, collaborate with product security teams on code reviews and penetration testing, and assess third-party technologies and vendors to ensure solutions meet security expectations.

  • Influence & Collaborate: Work with stakeholders across all levels of the business, translating complex security concepts into clear, actionable advice and helping teams make informed, risk-based decisions.

What you'll bring

  • Security Architecture Expertise: Strong experience in security architecture, solution architecture or security engineering, with the ability to design, assess and secure complex technology solutions.

  • Cloud & Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure, application, identity and data security, with practical experience designing and securing AWS environments. Exposure to Azure is also valued.

  • Security Engineering Practices: Experience conducting threat modelling and security design reviews, alongside a strong understanding of secure software development, DevSecOps and modern engineering practices.

  • Risk & Regulatory Awareness: Knowledge of security frameworks and regulatory requirements, including CPS 234, ISO 27001, CIS Controls and PCI DSS, with the ability to apply them pragmatically. Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, SABSA, TOGAF or equivalent are expected.

  • Communication & Influence: The ability to build strong relationships, challenge constructively and explain complex technical risks to both technical and non-technical audiences. A consulting background or experience working across diverse stakeholders will be highly regarded.

  • Curiosity & Adaptability: A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset and a willingness to embrace new challenges. Experience in financial services, payments, banking or health, along with exposure to AI security, Zero Trust Architecture or container security, would be a bonus.

Technologies You'll Work With

  • Cloud & AI: AWS, including services such as Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker, alongside cloud-native technologies and AI-enabled solutions.

  • Infrastructure & Application Security: Cloud infrastructure, APIs, identity and access management, encryption, data protection, containers and Kubernetes.

  • Security Architecture & Frameworks: Threat modelling, Zero Trust Architecture, security reference architectures, CPS 234, ISO 27001, CIS Controls and PCI DSS.

  • Security Engineering: DevSecOps, secure software development lifecycle (SDLC), security design reviews, vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
