Environmental Compliance Manager

Location: Central Indiana
Work Arrangement: Full-Time | Hybrid / Office-Based Options

Our client, an established multidisciplinary consulting firm, is seeking an experienced environmental professional to lead and grow its Environmental Compliance practice.

This position combines technical leadership, project oversight, client relationship management, and team development. The Group Manager will oversee environmental compliance, property assessment, and regulatory consulting services while helping expand the firm's presence within the commercial, industrial, development, and real estate markets.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in environmental compliance and regulatory consulting, with experience evaluating environmental risks associated with facilities, property transactions, and redevelopment projects.

Environmental Compliance Manager Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day activities of the environmental compliance team, including staffing, workload planning, project assignments, and technical oversight.
  • Manage environmental compliance reviews, regulatory assessments, audits, and related consulting projects for commercial and industrial clients.
  • Oversee Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, property transaction reviews, and environmental risk evaluations as needed.
  • Evaluate regulatory requirements, historical site conditions, operational risks, and potential environmental liabilities.
  • Help clients understand environmental requirements and develop practical strategies for maintaining compliance and managing risk.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, proposals, and fee estimates.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with industrial clients, developers, property owners, lenders, attorneys, and other organizations requiring environmental consulting support.
  • Support business development efforts and identify opportunities to expand environmental services with new and existing clients.
  • Mentor project managers, scientists, and technical staff while supporting quality standards and professional development.
  • Coordinate with other technical disciplines on projects involving environmental, engineering, development, or redevelopment needs.

Environmental Compliance Manager Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Approximately 10+ years of environmental consulting experience, including environmental compliance, regulatory assessments, audits, and environmental risk evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Experience with Phase I ESAs, ASTM standards, and All Appropriate Inquiry is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, proposal development, and client communication.
  • Previous experience developing client relationships or contributing to business development efforts.
  • Ability to translate regulatory and technical issues into practical recommendations for clients.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading environmental professionals.

Environmental Compliance Manager Preferred Background

  • Professional certification or licensure such as PE, PG, CHMM, or a similar environmental credential.
  • Current or previous 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
  • Experience with environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, contaminated properties, voluntary remediation programs, or redevelopment projects.
  • Existing relationships within the industrial, development, real estate, legal, or financial communities are beneficial.

Environmental Compliance Manager Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to periodically visit project sites and client locations throughout the region.
  • Comfortable balancing technical responsibilities with team leadership, client service, and business development.
