Environmental Scientist

Stantec is seeking an Environmental Scientist to support our Great Lakes Regional environmental remediation team based out of the Twin Cities in Minnesota (Plymouth, Minneapolis, or Woodbury). This position provides support and technical expertise related to soil, groundwater, and soil vapor assessment associated with due diligence, investigation, and remediation projects across multiple industries. The ideal candidate will have a background in geology and/or hydrogeology, strong problem-solving and communication skills, experience in environmental remediation and due diligence, and the ability to coordinate tasks and manage project activities. A current OSHA 40 hr. HAZWOPER certificate is required. Minnesota asbestos inspection and supervisor training credentials are preferred, but not required.

Projects include environmental due diligence for real estate transactions and redevelopment, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), remedial investigations and remediation for soil, groundwater, soil vapor, asbestos and hazardous materials assessments, various environmental compliance and permitting projects, grant program assistance, environmental cleanup, and proposal development activities.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Assist with environmental due diligence projects, including Phase I and II ESAs and soil, groundwater, and soil vapor investigations.
• Assist with scoping and scheduling field investigations.
• Provide technical input and review for projects and reports.
• Manage data, QA/QC, interpretation, and evaluation/comparison to applicable State environmental regulatory standards.
• Collect and interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
• Compile, evaluate, analyze, and present/report subsurface investigation data.
• Prepare technical correspondence, technical reports, work plans, investigation and cleanup grant applications, and project specifications including cost estimates and budgets.
• General understanding of engineering plans and specifications.
• Plan, review, and communicate the project health and safety plan so that project personnel, client, and subcontractors are aware of risks and hazards, and incidents are prevented.
• Coordinate and support subcontractors, including health and safety management and general oversight.
• Support fieldwork, site visits, including local travel, and some regional/national travel, when necessary. Regional and national travel may include 20-30% on an as-needed, project by project basis.
• Network and market your skills internally and externally to promote organic growth of projects and clients.

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering or other related scientific field is required.
• Current 40-Hr HAZWOPER training required.
• Position will be a mix of office, field work and field site visits. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Extended hours and schedules may be necessary to fit project demands.
