Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Epic Authorization Build Consultant to support a 3–4 month client engagement focused on Epic authorization functionality, implementation, and configuration.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience implementing, building, modifying, and configuring Epic authorization workflows, with particular emphasis on eMPA (Electronic Medical Prior Authorization), Real-Time Eligibility (RTE), and Real-

Time Authorization (RTA).

This individual must be comfortable performing direct, hands-on-keyboard build activities within Epic, including configuration, modifications, testing, and troubleshooting. This is a technical build-focused role requiring someone who can independently execute configuration work, not simply provide advisory or project management support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on Epic eMPA implementation, build, and configuration activities.
  • Configure and modify Epic authorization workflows to support client requirements and operational processes.
  • Perform hands-on build and modifications related to Epic Real-Time Eligibility (RTE) functionality.
  • Perform hands-on build and modifications related to Epic Real-Time Authorization (RTA) functionality.
  • Assess existing Epic authorization configurations and identify opportunities for enhancements or workflow optimization.
  • Translate business and operational requirements into Epic system build and configuration.
  • Conduct configuration testing, troubleshooting, and validation to ensure functionality meets requirements.
  • Collaborate with application teams, revenue cycle stakeholders, and operational leaders to support successful implementation.
  • Document build changes, configuration decisions, and testing results.
  • Support issue resolution and stabilization of implemented functionality.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated hands-on Epic eMPA implementation, build, and configuration experience.
  • Direct hands-on-keyboard experience performing Epic system build and modifications.
  • Hands-on experience with Epic RTE (Real-Time Eligibility), including build, configuration, or modification.
  • Hands-on experience with Epic RTA (Real-Time Authorization), including build, configuration, or modification.
  • Strong understanding of Epic authorization workflows and related revenue cycle processes.
  • Experience translating business requirements into technical Epic configurations.
  • Ability to independently execute build activities, troubleshoot issues, and validate system functionality.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Prior experience supporting Epic implementations, enhancements, or optimization initiatives involving authorization workflows.
  • Experience working with healthcare payer authorization and eligibility processes.
  • Experience collaborating with revenue cycle, patient access, and clinical application teams.
  • Epic certification or proficiency in relevant application areas, where applicable.
  • 5+years Epic experience in one or more of the areas of support noted

Engagement Expectations

The consultant will be expected to serve as a hands-on technical resource throughout the 3–4 month engagement, actively performing Epic build and configuration work.

Important: Candidates whose experience is primarily project management, oversight, workflow consulting, or requirements gathering without direct Epic build experience will not be the ideal fit.

The priority is finding a resource who has personally performed eMPA, RTE, and RTA build and configuration activities and can contribute immediately to the client's technical implementation needs.
