Do you enjoy digging into a fresh set of drawings and figuring out exactly what needs to be priced? We're looking for an Estimator to join a well-established New Zealand architectural metalwork and fabrication business, taking ownership of tender pricing and quantity takeoffs so the Sales Manager can spend more time building client relationships and winning new work.

Most of the work you'll price is custom rather than repeat or standard scope, so you'll need to be comfortable picking up a new drawing set quickly, working out what's actually being priced, and turning that into an accurate, submission-ready quote. You'll work closely with the Sales Manager to learn how pricing information is extracted and packaged, including from large, unstructured tender documents, and you'll use AI tools as part of your day-to-day estimating workflow.

YOU'RE LIKELY A STRONG FIT IF YOU HAVE

• A background in engineering, metalwork, or fabrication and assembly, or solid exposure to the architectural metalwork or construction industry
• Working knowledge of estimating and quantity surveying principles
• Confidence reading and interpreting architectural or structural drawing sets with minimal direction
• Strong attention to detail and comfort handling confidential commercial information
• Clear written and spoken English
• Openness to learning new estimating software and AI-assisted workflows

STRONG SIGNALS

• Experience with Revit and/or AutoCAD
• Exposure to Bluebeam, or a willingness to learn it as part of the role
• Familiarity with takeoff or estimating software such as PlanSwift
• Basic CAD drafting ability

RESPONSIBILITY PILLARS

Tender and Drawing Review

You own the first read of every tender package, translating complex drawing sets into clear scope and pricing requirements.

• Review tender packages and architectural or structural drawing sets, including large documents with limited context, to identify scope and pricing requirements
• Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications
• Work directly with the Sales Manager to clarify scope and align on what's being priced within each package

Cost Estimating and Quote Preparation

You ensure every quote is accurate, complete, and ready to submit.

• Prepare cost estimates and assemble complete, accurate tender submissions and quotes
• Maintain and apply company pricing data, including a proprietary rates and costs spreadsheet, with discretion
• Use AI tools as part of your drawing review and estimating workflow

Team Collaboration and Support

You support the wider team beyond your own pricing work.

• Provide light support to the CAD drawing team where your drafting skills allow
• Take on general administrative tasks during quieter periods between tenders
• Work as an embedded member of the team, with regular one-on-one catch-ups and day-to-day collaboration
