Join Brain in Hand
At Brain in Hand, we're passionate about making the world more accessible and fairer for neurodivergent people and those experiencing mental health challenges.
Our combination of practical digital tools and human support helps people build confidence, achieve their goals and live more independently.
With over half our colleagues identifying as neurodivergent, we're proud to build our services with lived experience at their heart. Recently recognised as one of the Times Best Places to Work, we're a supportive, ambitious organisation where people can make a genuine difference.
About the opportunity
We're extending our coaching service from 6pm to 8pm. We're looking for an Evening Lead Coach to manage the coaches working 12pm–8pm. You'll lead the team from 4pm–8pm, help with difficult situations and sometimes cover coaching sessions yourself. You'll also keep an eye on our live chat service and reply to users when needed.
This is a six-month trial, with the possibility of becoming permanent. You'll work closely with daytime colleagues and help us decide how the evening service could improve or grow.
What you'll be doing
Line manage the assigned evening coaches, including regular one-to-ones, supervision, performance conversations and development support.
Help maintain high-quality, person-centred coaching and a consistent user experience.
Cover coaching sessions when a colleague is away or extra support is needed.
Help coaches with difficult user situations. Recognise safeguarding concerns, take appropriate action and know when to involve a senior colleague.
Coordinate clear handovers with daytime leads and other colleagues.
Take ownership of routine people-management matters, supporting wellbeing, attendance, performance and team development.
Monitor live chat and respond to users when needed. Keep clear notes and make sure any follow-up is completed.
Use insights from the pilot to improve the service and help plan for potential expansion, including recruiting and onboarding additional coaches.
What we're looking for
You'll probably have…
Experience of line managing people, including one-to-ones and performance support (essential).
Experience recognising safeguarding concerns and deciding when to escalate them (essential).
Experience providing direct, person-centred support, with the adaptability to deliver user-facing sessions when required (essential).
Formal coaching or mentoring experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
Confidence handling difficult user situations and knowing when another type of support is more appropriate than a safeguarding referral (essential).
You'll also be someone who…
Leads with empathy, independence and sound judgement, giving coaches confidence while knowing when to seek senior support.
Communicates clearly and handles handovers carefully.
Stays calm and organised when priorities change; experience in care or a related support setting and relevant training would be particularly welcome.
Enjoys collaboration and helping to improve how services work.
Why join Brain in Hand?
We offer a supportive, values-led culture, ongoing learning and development, pension provision, private medical insurance and annual leave in line with our policies and your contracted hours. Our usual working pattern includes a wellbeing day every other Friday; arrangements for this trial role may be adapted to ensure evening service coverage and will be discussed before appointment.
Our commitment to inclusion
We believe diversity makes us stronger. We're proud to be a Disability Confident employer and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly those with lived experience of neurodiversity or disability. If you need adjustments during the recruitment process, we'll be happy to support you.
