Show job description

Do you want to become part of a global organization that identifies people and initiatives that successfully have solved local environmental challenges of access to clean water, clean air, and nutritious food? And that helps to promote working solutions to improve the climate? Then WAFA is for you!

WAFA (Water Air Food Awards) is a volunteer-run NGO based in Copenhagen. Since 2008 it has recognised grassroots “silent heroes” who create practical, nature-based solutions for clean water, clean air, nutritious food and a healthier climate.

In 2026, we are successfully joining forces with universities around the world. We experience how students and silent heroes/(grassroots mainly in the Global South) appreciate exchanging experience and knowledge with each other

We are looking for an Event Manager based in the Copenhagen area to help us deliver our Flagship event, The Generation Green Forum, and lead Event Team Members. The Generation Green Forum, including the WAFA Awards Celebration, takes place on 20th November 2026 at Copenhagen Business School, in part taking place at their Green Business Forum.

Your responsibilities:

  • Own event timelines, program and priorities, and join the Steering Committee
  • Prepare and oversee the budget
  • Source, negotiate and manage venues, caterers, suppliers, speakers and equipment
  • Work with the sponsor manager to deliver sponsor benefits and find new sponsors
  • Arrange media coverage and work with marketing on promotion
  • Meet VIP requirements with the VIP and management teams
  • Oversee logistics, security, first aid, risk management and health and safety
  • Lead on-the-day operations and staff briefings
  • Recruit, brief and motivate the event team and set schedules
  • Run the post-event evaluation and report on attendee satisfaction and budget.

We expect you to:

  • Have 3-5 years of event management or project coordination experience
  • Have experience working with partners, suppliers, or sponsors
  • Possess strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Be calm and decisive under pressure
  • Preferably speak and write fluent English and Danish
  • Be based in the Copenhagen area
  • Preferred: have event marketing, social media and hybrid event experience.

Time Commitment: This is a volunteer position, designed to fit alongside your other commitments.

We expect approximately 8-12 hours per week on average, with some additional time leading up to the Generation Green Forum. We understand that volunteers have limited time, so we will focus your involvement on the areas where your experience, talent, and energy can create the greatest impact.

What You Will Gain:

  • Become part of a passionate, international team
  • Use your professional skills for a meaningful global cause
  • Meet inspiring, exceptional pioneers from around the world
  • Build connections across the sustainability, business, and NGO sectors
  • Gain hands-on experience with international events
  • Enjoy working from home as well as meeting in person in Copenhagen
  • Most importantly, know that your contribution is helping bring attention and opportunities to people restoring livelihoods in their communities, enabling them to scale and replicate their creative solutions.

Why WAFA?

Around the world, people are quietly developing solutions that restore livelihoods, protect nature and create a sustainable future. WAFA helps make sure their voices are heard. If you would like to use your skills, energy and experience to help bring these stories to the world, we would love to have you join us.

Does this sound like a job for you? You can apply with your CV and a short letter of motivation telling us why you want to join WAFA by email to Phani, our HRBP, at phma@wafaward.org.
