Show job description

The Executive Benefits Program Owner leads the administration and ongoing improvement of JM Family's executive benefits portfolio. This highly visible role serves as a trusted advisor to current and former executives, translating complex retirement, deferred compensation, insurance, health, and financial-wellbeing programs into clear guidance. The ideal candidate brings direct executive-benefits or total-rewards expertise, strong consulting capabilities, strategic thinking, operational discipline, and the judgment required to manage confidential and time-sensitive matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the operating cycle for executive benefit programs, including eligibility, enrollment, elections, contributions, payments, distributions, transitions, and participant support.
  • Serve as a confidential strategic advisor to current and former executives, families, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders.
  • Consult with executives on qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, deferred compensation, executive insurance, health programs, and other executive benefits, providing clear recommendations based on individual circumstances, plan provisions, tax considerations, and timing.
  • Apply strategic thinking to anticipate executive needs, evaluate program performance, participation, regulatory developments, and market practices, and develop data-supported recommendations for participants and leadership.
  • Support executive onboarding, promotions, retirement, separation, and death-related benefit processes with clear information, thoughtful planning, and coordinated follow-through.
  • Coordinate payroll, funding, tax reporting, data exchanges, compliance activities, and other time-sensitive processes with internal partners.
  • Manage external benefit providers, including service expectations, contracts, invoices, technology feeds, issue resolution, and program administration.
  • Validate data and calculations, maintain accurate program resources, monitor regulatory and market developments, and recommend improvements that strengthen controls, reduce risk, and enhance the executive-benefits experience.
  • Prepare executive-ready communications, summaries, presentations, and decision materials for senior leaders and committees.
  • Maintain executive communications, educational materials, FAQs, and knowledge resources related to executive benefit programs.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to leadership that strengthen program effectiveness and elevate the overall executive benefits experience.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three or more years of total rewards or benefits experience, including meaningful exposure to executive benefits, nonqualified deferred compensation, executive insurance, or retirement programs.
  • Working knowledge of Section 409A requirements and their application to nonqualified deferred compensation plans.
  • Strong understanding of qualified and nonqualified plan concepts, including deferrals, distributions, restoration arrangements, and compensation and contribution limits.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders, develop recommendations, and translate technical benefit, tax, and timing concepts into clear, practical guidance.
  • Experience managing benefit vendors, service expectations, contracts, invoices, data exchanges, and issue escalation.
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience building and validating models, calculations, files, and reconciliations in Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, discretion, and judgment, with the ability to create polished, executive-ready materials and manage highly sensitive information.
  • Exceptional discretion and judgment when handling sensitive compensation, health, beneficiary, and personal information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CEBS, CBP, or another relevant benefits certification.
  • Experience with executive life insurance, survivor benefit, or long-term care arrangements.
  • Experience preparing materials for retirement, administrative, compensation, or similar governance committees.
  • Experience with Workday, benefits administration platforms, and HR case-management tools.
  • Experience supporting executive recruiting, offers, onboarding, promotions, or transitions.
