You were made for work like this. As InterVarsity’s Executive Director of Diversity, you’ll help build a ministry where people across multiple diversities can flourish and lead, with a seat at the National Leadership Team and People Leadership Team tables. If your faith and your calling meet here, we’d love to hear from you.

To advance the purpose of InterVarsity and the 2030 calling, this position will provide vision, strategic leadership, and oversight for the Diversity function of the People line. Under the direction of the Chief People Officer, the Executive Director translates the People line strategy into a Diversity strategy and plan that strengthens InterVarsity’s organizational priorities, including talent acquisition, leadership development, employee engagement, retention, and fundraising. The Executive Director leads the Diversity team, drives results through influence across a matrixed organization, measures the impact of Diversity initiatives, and serves as a member of the National Leadership Team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Personal Spiritual Duties

· Be a maturing disciple of Jesus Christ: growing in love for God, God's Word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture, and God's purposes in the world.

· Pursue a vibrant relationship with the triune God through engagement with Scripture, prayer, and worship, both individually and in community

· Exercise self-leadership (growing in self-awareness, self-management, relational integrity, and resiliency)

· Embrace and practice Scriptural standards for behavior and attitudes, including those described in the Code of Conduct

Strategic Leadership

· Partner with the CPO to translate the People line vision and strategy into a multi-year Diversity strategy and annual plan aligned with the 2030 calling and InterVarsity's organizational priorities

· Embody, influence and champion a joyful culture of diversity, engagement and belonging that reflects God's people of every ethnicity and culture

· Identify key priority actions and sustaining interventions that have the greatest potential for impacting InterVarsity nationally, stewarding resources toward initiatives that serve the whole Fellowship

· Partner with key leaders to connect the work of Diversity to InterVarsity's organizational priorities, including talent acquisition, leadership development, employee engagement, retention, and fundraising

· Provide vision, strategic direction, and oversight for SHIFT, National Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), Diversity consulting, and conflict resolution (RESOLVE)

· Serve as a collaborative and productive member of the National Leadership Team and the People Leadership Team, acting and making decisions in the best interest of the whole Fellowship

· Lead large-scale national initiatives and projects as assigned by the CPO

· Work with the CPO to recommend Diversity-related policies and procedures to the Executive Leadership Team

Collaborative and Change Leadership

· Act as change agent nationally, partnering with leaders across the Fellowship to drive a culture of inclusion, identifying areas for change, building consensus among stakeholders, and initiating solutions

· Establish and build partnership between Diversity and the Human Resources, Talent Management, and Talent Acquisition teams to deliver integrated People line solutions

· Form effective, collaborative partnerships with Focused Ministries, Field VPs, Regional Directors, and National Service Center leaders, establishing clear communication patterns and timely feedback loops

· Build trusting relationships with diversity constituent groups while weighing competing needs with wisdom and keeping the good of the whole Fellowship in view

· Recognize, assess and navigate complex group dynamics with emotional intelligence, organizational awareness (power, histories, politics), and cross-cultural competence

· Advise the CPO and senior leaders on complex and sensitive Diversity-related issues

Measurement and Impact

· Establish measures and a regular reporting rhythm to evaluate the impact of Diversity programs and initiatives on organizational priorities

· Observe and analyze diversity-related trends and patterns using qualitative and quantitative means

· Prepare reports for the CPO, ELT, and NLT synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data into usable insights and recommendations

· Partner with Talent Management to apply Staff Voice Survey insights to Diversity strategy

· Connect Diversity wins to Return on Investment (ROI) for InterVarsity's mission

Supervision

· Recruit, hire, train, develop, supervise and retain qualified staff

· Cast vision for and provide clear direction to the Diversity team around their goals, priorities, and strategies

· Organize structures, roles, processes, team rhythms, and accountability loops to optimize resources and achieve goals

· Document key processes, plans, and results so the work of Diversity is consistent, sustainable, and measurable

· Care well for staff while holding high standards of accountability

Fund Development

· Raise agreed upon support; establish and nurture ministry partner relationships through visits, phone calls, and regular prayer and thank-you letters

· Supervise the fund development of all supervisees

· Communicate regularly with Diversity staff concerning their ministry partnership development responsibilities and requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

· Annually affirm InterVarsity's Statement of Agreement. Abide by InterVarsity's Code of Conduct.

· Thorough knowledge of the purpose, vision, ministries and policies of InterVarsity, and understanding of InterVarsity culture and how to effectively navigate it

· A significant combination of field-related ministry knowledge, skills, and experience is required to successfully perform the responsibilities of this role. A typical way of gaining these qualifications would be: a Bachelor's degree (related Master's degree preferred), a minimum of 8 years of field-related ministry experience, including at least 5 years of senior leadership experience at the Field National Director or Regional Director (or equivalent) level

· Significant theological acuity and spiritual maturity

· Experience leading and managing change, with a commitment to continuous improvement

· Strong analytical skills: ability to synthesize trends, interpret data, and measure outcomes

· Excellent relationship builder and team player who can collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and leadership

Why Work Here?

There are over 2500 campuses in the US with more than 1000 students, and the majority of them have no known Christian ministry. Gen Z is curious and open to exploring their faith, but they need someone to guide them.
InterVarsity wants to reach the campus with the Good News, disciple students through Scripture and service, and equip them as leaders and tomorrow’s world-changers. If you have a heart for students and faculty — one of the most strategic callings you could ever pursue — join our team! Serve on campus, in our national offices, at our publishing firm (InterVarsity Press), or in national leadership roles.

About Us

InterVarsity is a vibrant campus ministry that longs to give college students and faculty the chance to grow in their faith. We work to establish witnessing communities on campus where students and faculty can pursue God, God's word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture, and God's purposes in the world.
