We will empower you to lead, develop deep expertise, and find new approaches to solving the toughest challenges.

Position Overview:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation works at the intersection of business and the public good—advancing workforce development, civic education, community resilience, and economic opportunity for workers, students, and communities across the country.

The role of the Executive Director, Marketing and Communications spans two interconnected functions: enterprise communications and marketing that advance the Foundation’s brand and reputation, and programmatic communications and marketing that deliver Foundation initiatives to the audiences they’re designed to serve.

The ideal candidate will lead the Foundation’s communications and marketing function, developing and executing strategies that elevate the visibility and impact of Foundation programs, research, events, and thought leadership and connect programs and information to the constituencies they’re designed to reach.

The candidate will serve as a senior internal resource and adviser to Foundation leadership and program teams, ensuring strategic plans are designed and implemented with integrated, impact-driven communications. This person will oversee communications and marketing staff, external agencies, and vendors in support of organizational, fundraising, and programmatic goals. Few communication roles offer this combination of mission, platform, and scope.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Marketing and Communications Leadership

  • Develop and implement a Foundation-wide communications and marketing strategy aligned with organizational priorities, programmatic goals, and business objectives.
  • Serve as a senior internal adviser and resource to Foundation leadership and program teams, ensuring communications and marketing are embedded in strategic planning and execution.
  • Lead integrated planning across Foundation programs, ensuring cohesive messaging, audience targeting, and brand alignment.

Marketing and Audience Engagement

  • Develop and execute integrated marketing strategies that support Foundation programs, events, research, and development priorities.
  • Design and deliver marketing approaches that reach target constituencies effectively and meet programmatic and grant requirements.
  • Partner with program and development teams to support audience growth, partner engagement, and revenue-generating activities.
  • Use audience insights and performance data to continuously refine marketing strategies and improve impact.

Media Relations

  • Lead proactive media relations in support of Foundation programs, research, events, and initiatives, including storytelling, earned media opportunities, and spokesperson preparation.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Communications team.
  • Oversee media monitoring, analysis, and reporting to evaluate performance, identify trends, and inform leadership decision-making.

Brand and Visual Identity

  • Own and steward the Foundation’s brand and visual identity, including brand standards, guidelines, and governance across all platforms and constituent programs.
  • Partner with program teams to develop and maintain sub-brands and visual identities for Foundation initiatives and constituent programs.

Digital Communications

  • Oversee the Foundation’s digital communications function, including website, email marketing, and social media.
  • Ensure digital approaches evolve in response to changes in technology, audience behavior, and AI-enabled communications environments.

Executive, Board, and Stakeholder Communications

  • Support senior leadership communications, including executive messaging, board communications, presentations, and strategic announcements.
  • Develop materials that translate organizational accomplishments into compelling narratives for directors, funders, partners, and external audiences.

Events, Thought Leadership, and External Engagement

  • Develop communications and marketing strategies that maximize the impact of Foundation events, convenings, research releases, and major initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to position Foundation leaders and subject-matter experts as trusted voices on issues central to the organization’s mission.

Team Leadership and Operations

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing communications and marketing team— building capability, fostering collaboration, and creating a culture of impact and accountability.
  • Manage budgets, vendor relationships, agency partnerships, and external consultants in service of the Foundation’s mission and goals.
  • Establish performance measures that evaluate communications and marketing effectiveness and support continuous improvement.
  • Build operational systems and processes that improve coordination, responsiveness, and strategic impact across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in communications and marketing with a track record that reflects creative ambition, not just execution.
  • Genuine commitment to mission-driven work and comfort operating at the intersection of business and the public good.
  • A creative sensibility and appetite for innovation—someone who brings fresh thinking to how organizations tell stories, reach audiences, and build movements, and who is energized by work that doesn’t follow a template.
  • Fluency with AI-enabled communications tools and a forward-leaning orientation toward how emerging technology is reshaping content creation, audience engagement, and marketing effectiveness.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills—with the ability to write and edit at a high level across formats and audiences.
  • Experience leading integrated communications and marketing strategies for complex organizations, missions, programs, or brands—ideally in a nonprofit, foundation, or association environment.
  • Experience designing and delivering marketing strategies that support programmatic outcomes, grant requirements, or mission-driven goals.
  • Strong strategic thinking and the ability to translate organizational priorities into effective communications and marketing plans.

The salary range for this position is $122,250.00 - $175,000.00. The actual salary paid for this position will vary based on market data, an applicant’s qualifications, relevant degrees, certifications, and other factors. Our full-time employees are eligible for benefits, including health care, vision, dental, retirement, and paid leave.

We provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
