Job Description
This is a remote position.
Executive Mentors, Coaches & Specialist Consultants
Put your experience to work developing others
Rutherford International welcomes expressions of interest from experienced executives, professional coaches and subject-matter specialists who can help professionals strengthen their performance, develop their judgement and prepare for greater responsibility.
Through the Executive Talent Accelerator, Rutherford matches assessed employees of enterprise clients with development expertise suited to their objectives, behavioural profiles and organisational circumstances.
This posting recruits independent providers of mentoring, coaching and specialist consulting services. It is an Evergreen Expression of Interest, not a current vacancy or a guaranteed assignment.
Augmenting internal career development
The Executive Talent Accelerator augments employers’ internal career and leadership development programmes with dedicated mentoring capacity, structured coaching and targeted specialist expertise.
Annual reviews can establish clear development priorities, but managers’ operational responsibilities may leave limited time for consistent guidance, practice and follow-up. Effective mentoring and coaching also require capabilities and interpersonal qualities that differ from those needed to manage performance.
Rutherford provides additional support to help employees act on agreed development objectives, working alongside their employer’s internal programme.
Three distinct ways to contribute
Executive Mentors
Provide longer-term, holistic guidance grounded in personal experience, career wisdom and relevant leadership responsibilities. Mentors help participants examine career direction, navigate organisational challenges, strengthen judgement and prepare for broader responsibilities.
Effective mentors explain their reasoning, share relevant experience and help participants develop their own judgement.
Executive Coaches
Provide structured, focused support for short-term skill development and performance improvement. Coaches help participants establish specific objectives, practise new approaches and review progress against agreed outcomes.
Assignments may address communication, delegation, stakeholder relationships, leadership behaviours or readiness for a defined responsibility.
Subject-Matter Specialist Consultants
Provide focused expertise addressing a particular functional, technical or business need. Specialists may explain a method, examine a decision, review work or help participants apply unfamiliar knowledge.
The scope, intended contribution and limits of the advice are established for each assignment. Implementation work is agreed separately.
Professionals may offer more than one service. Suitability and engagement scope are considered separately for each role.
Who should register
We welcome:
- Current and former executives with relevant leadership experience and a demonstrated ability to develop others.
- Professional coaches who can explain their methods, qualifications and evidence of contribution.
- Senior functional and technical specialists who can translate expertise into practical learning.
- Experienced consultants interested in supporting enterprise-sponsored development.
A distinguished career or senior title alone does not establish mentoring or coaching capability. We look for evidence that you can listen, explain, challenge appropriately and adapt your approach to another person’s needs.
Assessment and matching
Rutherford evaluates providers across three complementary areas:
- Functional expertise: demonstrated knowledge, judgement and relevant experience.
- Development capability: the ability to mentor, coach or teach effectively within the service offered.
- Service orientation and relationship fit: the motivation and interpersonal capacity to support another person’s progress.
The RutherfordINTEL Assessment informs curator review alongside professional history, qualifications, references and examples of developmental work.
Matching considers the employee’s objectives, behavioural profile, enterprise context and practical needs, together with the provider’s expertise, approach and availability.
Working with Rutherford and enterprise clients
Rutherford International markets the Executive Talent Accelerator, holds and manages the enterprise client relationship, coordinates development mandates and matches providers to participating employees.
Providers deliver agreed services as independent contractors to Rutherford International. Each assignment establishes the scope, objectives, professional fees, time commitment, reporting requirements and engagement terms.
Providers are expected to:
- Prepare thoroughly and deliver relevant, actionable guidance.
- Maintain accurate timesheets and submit them through the agreed process.
- Support development objectives aligned with the client’s internal programme.
- Respect confidentiality and agreed information-sharing boundaries.
- Disclose conflicts and work within their professional competence.
- Distinguish developmental support from management authority or separately commissioned implementation work.
- Review progress and raise concerns when the match or scope needs to change.
Employer sponsorship does not automatically provide access to private assessment results or confidential development discussions.
