Contract: Initial 12-Month Contract

Start Date: January 2027

We are seeking an experienced Field Expeditor to support the delivery of critical engineering equipment, materials, and spares across a complex major infrastructure programme. This is a home-based role requiring regular supplier visits and close engagement with manufacturers, supply chain partners, and project stakeholders to ensure deliveries remain on schedule.

This opportunity would suit someone with a background in expediting, supplier management, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, or supply chain delivery within a large engineering, construction, energy, or industrial environment.

The Role

As a Field Expeditor, you will be responsible for monitoring supplier performance, validating manufacturing and procurement progress, identifying delivery risks, and driving recovery actions where required. You will act as the eyes and ears of the project within the supply chain, providing accurate reporting and escalation of issues that could impact delivery schedules.

The role requires a proactive individual who can work independently, confidently engage with suppliers, and effectively manage relationships across multiple stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Expediting & Supplier Management

  • Expedite the delivery of critical strategic, commissioning, and operational spares.
  • Conduct supplier and manufacturer visits to validate procurement, manufacturing, testing, and delivery readiness.
  • Monitor supplier performance against project delivery requirements.
  • Challenge reported progress and verify actual status on-site.
  • Identify delays, constraints, bottlenecks, and emerging supply chain risks.
  • Support suppliers in developing recovery and mitigation plans.
  • Escalate significant risks and delivery concerns as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of supplier commitments, actions, risks, and delivery forecasts.

Supply Chain & Delivery Coordination

  • Track equipment, materials, and documentation throughout the supply chain.
  • Monitor required-on-site dates and ensure priority items receive appropriate supplier focus.
  • Liaise with logistics and materials management teams to support successful deliveries.
  • Maintain accurate status reporting and forecast information.
  • Ensure potential impacts to commissioning and operational readiness are identified early.

Supplier Visits

Regular supplier visits will include:

  • Reviewing procurement and sub-supplier performance.
  • Assessing material availability.
  • Monitoring manufacturing progress.
  • Reviewing documentation status.
  • Identifying production bottlenecks and schedule risks.
  • Monitoring inspection and testing activities.
  • Reviewing packing, shipment, and delivery readiness.
  • Supporting and monitoring supplier recovery plans.

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Produce clear, factual supplier progress reports.
  • Report on procurement, manufacturing, documentation, and delivery status.
  • Highlight schedule risks, delays, mitigation actions, and forecast completion dates.
  • Work closely with project, engineering, procurement, quality, commercial, logistics, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure effective communication across the supply chain.

About You

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Previous experience in field expediting, supplier management, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, or supply chain delivery within a major engineering environment.
  • Experience conducting supplier or manufacturer audits, inspections, or progress visits.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and procurement processes.
  • Ability to interpret production schedules and delivery programmes.
  • Experience identifying schedule risks and tracking recovery plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to challenge suppliers constructively.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience producing concise progress and visit reports.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout the UK and occasionally across Central Europe.
  • Professional fluency in English.
