EOI – Senior Interior Designer
Design the Places Where People Love to Be Together
At Populous, we design the places where people love to be together.
From stadiums and arenas to entertainment destinations, airports and major civic spaces, our projects are about much more than buildings. They are about creating experiences, and the interiors of those spaces play an important role in how people connect with them.
We’re keen to hear from Senior Interior Designer in the Melbourne market with the potential to become part of our broader APAC interiors and design team.
This is an opportunity for an experienced designer who enjoys thinking beyond individual spaces, someone interested in how interiors, architecture, materiality, movement and experience come together to create memorable places.
You’ll work alongside architects, designers and specialists on major projects in Melbourne, across Australia and throughout the APAC region, helping take ideas from early concepts and storytelling through to documentation and delivery.
About Populous
Populous is a global architecture and design practice specialising in places that draw people together.
For more than 40 years, we have designed some of the world’s most recognised sports and entertainment venues, arenas, convention and exhibition centres, airports, mixed-use destinations and major public spaces.
Our work starts with people. We think about how a place feels, how people move through it, what they experience when they arrive and the moments, they remember when they leave.
Our Melbourne studio is part of a connected APAC practice, giving our people the opportunity to contribute to significant projects locally while collaborating with colleagues and specialists across the region and around the world.
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Interior Designer at Populous, you’ll help lead the design and delivery of memorable interior environments across major projects in Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
You’ll combine design creativity with technical expertise, project leadership and collaboration, guiding projects from early concepts through documentation and delivery.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Lead the development of interior design concepts, narratives and integrated design responses.
- Translate project briefs and client ambitions into engaging, practical and well-resolved interior environments.
- Guide the selection of materials, finishes, fixtures, furniture and lighting to support the design vision and user experience.
- Prepare and present compelling design ideas to clients, communities and other project stakeholders.
- Lead projects through design development, documentation, coordination and construction delivery.
- Oversee interior documentation and detailing in Revit, supporting quality and consistency across project outputs.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, consultants, contractors, suppliers and manufacturers to resolve challenges and deliver strong outcomes.
- Guide and support other designers while contributing ideas and expertise to our Brisbane studio and wider APAC interiors community.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for an experienced designer who can shape an idea, bring others along with the vision and help turn it into a well-resolved, deliverable outcome.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture or a related discipline.
- Substantial interior design experience, ideally within an architecture, interiors or multidisciplinary design practice.
- Experience leading the design, documentation and delivery of complex interior projects.
- Strong design capability, with the ability to develop concepts that have a clear narrative, purpose and point of view.
- Strong technical knowledge, including proficiency in Revit and experience coordinating multidisciplinary project documentation.
- Sound knowledge of materials, finishes, fixtures, furniture and relevant Australian products, suppliers and construction practices.
- Confident communication and presentation skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and project partners.
- A collaborative and solutions-focused approach, including experience guiding others and balancing creative ambition with technical, commercial and practical requirements.
Experience across sports, entertainment, hospitality, aviation, cultural, commercial or other large-scale public environments would be valuable, but is not essential.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys design, leadership and collaboration, and who wants to help create places and experiences that people remember.
If this opportunity excites you but your experience does not align with every point above, we still encourage you to apply. We recognise that capability can be developed through many different career paths and experiences.
Why Populous?

Interested?
We know a great Interior Designer is more than a list of software skills or years of experience.
We’re looking for someone who cares about the details, is curious about how people experience spaces, enjoys working with others and gets excited by the opportunity to see an idea move from sketch to built environment.
If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.
Send us your CV and portfolio and come help us design the places that bring people together.
We are not accepting applications or candidate submissions from recruitment agencies at this time. We ask that all candidates apply directly through this job posting.
