About the Role We’re seeking an External Audit & Assurance Associate to support financial statement audits, reviews, compilations, and related accounting engagements. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals and Partners while gaining hands-on experience in engagement planning, testing, financial reporting, client communication, and engagement completion. As your skills develop, you’ll take on greater responsibility and build toward a Senior Associate position. This role is ideal for someone with 1-2 years of public accounting external audit experience who is eager to learn, comfortable working with clients, and interested in developing a well-rounded accounting and assurance career. Why You’ll Love It Here At Magone & Company, you’ll have the opportunity to: Work on audits, reviews, compilations, and related engagements for privately held businesses and nonprofit organizations Build relationships with business owners, CFOs, controllers, and client accounting teams Learn the full engagement process—from planning and fieldwork through financial-statement issuance Work directly with Managers and Partners while receiving regular coaching, feedback, and technical training Develop toward a Senior Associate role while building client-service, advisory, technology, and leadership skills What You’ll Do Assist with engagement planning, risk assessment, confirmations, analytical procedures, substantive testing, and selected internal-control procedures Prepare accurate workpapers and test financial-statement accounts, including cash, receivables, payables, revenue, expenses, payroll, and fixed assets Work directly with client accounting teams to obtain supporting information, resolve open items, and identify unusual activity or potential accounting and audit issues Assist with financial statements, disclosures, and technical research under the guidance of senior team members Manage multiple engagement deadlines, respond constructively to review comments, and participate in training, technology, and process-improvement initiatives What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 1-2 years of public accounting external audit experience Foundational knowledge of accounting principles, financial statements, and audit procedures Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills with close attention to detail Clear written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, growth-oriented approach Proficiency with Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with the ability to travel to local client sites; travel outside the Tri-State area is rare CPA eligibility or progress toward CPA licensure is preferred but not required at the time of hire. Magone & Company provides support for employees pursuing the CPA credential. Compensation and Benefits Salary: $65,000+ annually , competitively based on relevant experience, education, technical skills, and CPA eligibility.
