As our Facilities Maintenance Specialist, you will design, implement, and oversee Article's multi-site facilities maintenance program across our fulfillment centers, retail stores, office environments, and future physical locations.
Why We Need You
As Article expands its retail store presence and warehousing network, keeping our physical infrastructure running safely, smoothly, and efficiently is critical. We are establishing Health, Safety & Facilities (HSF) as an independent function to support our expanding physical presence, allowing our operational leaders to focus on core business execution while you own facility standards, preventative maintenance frameworks, vendor governance, and equipment reliability.
In this role, you will take full ownership of our multi-site maintenance strategy across both retail and fulfillment centers. You will bridge the gap between day-to-day warehouse machinery—specifically material handling equipment like forklifts and electric pallet jacks—and broader facility operations like HVAC, fire and life safety, dock doors, janitorial service contracts, and landlord obligations. Moving us from spreadsheets to modern computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), you will build scalable maintenance playbooks that keep our fulfillment centers and retail stores running without a hitch.
Within your first few months, you’d step into our Jacksonville fulfillment center, take governance of our work order platforms, establish material handling equipment maintenance plans, and align vendor contracts across landlord and tenant responsibilities for both retail and warehouse sites. In a year, you’ll be proud to say you’ve streamlined our facilities operations, established clear service SLAs across national vendors, mitigated operational risks, and built a scalable maintenance foundation to support Article's growth across North America.

About the Health, Safety & Facilities Team
You will report to the Compliance and Maintenance Manager as a core member of the Health, Safety & Facilities (HSF) team. You’ll work closely alongside our Safety Specialist team, site leaders, and cross-functional partners across Retail, Fulfillment, Procurement, Legal, and Finance.
Our team operates on a clear boundary model: HSF owns facilities standards, preventative maintenance frameworks, vendor governance, and compliance visibility, while local operational teams maintain line authority over daily site execution. We thrive on a collaborative, first-principles problem-solving culture where systems thinking and proactive communication are key to keeping our team and facilities safe.
This is a hybrid position based out of our Jacksonville, FL fulfillment center (working 3 days on-site and 2 days remotely per week), with open flexibility to support other sites as needed.
What You’ll Do:
You will manage the end-to-end multi-site facilities strategy, balancing hands-on equipment and vendor governance with long-term preventative planning.
Specifically, you will:
- Design & Execute Facilities Strategy: Oversee multi-site preventative and corrective maintenance programs across fulfillment centers, retail showrooms, and offices for building systems including HVAC, dock doors/levelers, fire safety, plumbing, electrical, waste, pest control, and janitorial.
- Manage Material Handling & Warehouse Equipment: Oversee preventative maintenance, proper site allocation, lifecycle budgeting, and vendor servicing for warehouse machinery, including forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and material handling gear.
- Govern CMMS & Facility Systems: Own our computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and work order intake tracking, establishing standards for work order prioritization, escalation, closure, and performance reporting.
- Lead Vendor Management & SLAs: Partner with Procurement to evaluate, select, and manage third-party vendors. Negotiate scopes, monitor contract SLAs, enforce safety standards, and lead vendor re-bids or transitions when necessary.
- Assure Safety, Risk & Compliance: Conduct facilities risk assessments, identify safety hazards (egress, trip risks, life safety systems), and enforce timely corrective actions. Initiate stop-work processes in cases of imminent safety risks.
- Manage Facilities Financials & Budgets: Develop annual maintenance budget inputs, track portfolio spend, evaluate repair-versus-replace options, and authorize routine expenditures within delegated approval limits.
- Support New Site Readiness: Lead facilities readiness assessments for new store openings, warehouse expansions, closures, or relocations, providing documented recommendations to operational leadership.
Who You Are:
- Experienced Facilities Professional: 3 to 5+ years of progressive experience managing multi-site facilities, building maintenance, property management, or industrial equipment programs.
- Warehouse Equipment & CMMS Knowledge: Practical hands-on experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and direct experience managing material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks) preventative maintenance.
- Vendor & Lease Navigator: Proven ability to manage regional/national vendors, enforce contract SLAs, evaluate proposals, and navigate landlord/tenant repair boundaries across multiple commercial or retail locations.
- Systems Thinker & Problem Solver: Meticulous approach to tracking data, spotting recurring facility issues, organizing records, and building durable solutions rather than quick fixes.
- Strong Communicator & Collaborator: Able to influence without direct authority, negotiate effectively with external vendors, and communicate facilities risks clearly to operational leaders.
- Financial & Business Acumen: Skilled in budget tracking, repair-versus-replace evaluations, vendor cost analysis, and prioritizing limited resources based on operational risk.
- Willingness to Travel: Open to up to 25% travel across North America (US and Canada) for retail store openings, warehouse maintenance reviews, vendor meetings, or site readiness audits.

The target salary for this role is $63,000 to $80,000. The actual base pay can increase beyond this range, and will be based on various factors, including transferable skills, training and certifications, work experience, business needs and market demands.
