About Fort Smith and the Arkansas River Valley


Fort Smith is a vibrant community of around 90,000, with a low cost of living and ample recreational opportunities. Located in the beautiful Arkansas River Valley at the foothills of the Ozark mountains, Fort Smith is nestled between the Ozark-St. Francis and Ouachita National Forests. The region provides hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, hang gliding, whitewater rafting, and camping all within a short drive. LOCATION

This is a hybrid position. The employee will be remote the majority of the time, with the supervisor determining any residential requirements.


JOB SUMMARY


The Doctor of Executive Leadership (DEL) Faculty member is a collaborative educator and scholar committed to excellence in graduate education, executive leadership development, scholarship, service, and continuous program improvement.


The faculty member will contribute to the delivery and ongoing development of the Doctor of Executive Leadership program through high-quality online instruction, curriculum development, student advising and mentorship, scholarly activity, program assessment, and institutional and professional service.


The faculty member will work collaboratively with the DEL Program Director, faculty, staff, students, and institutional leadership to support the mission, vision, goals, and continued growth of the DEL program and Arkansas Colleges of Health Education (ACHE).

The faculty member will carry a teaching load as assigned based on program needs and institutional expectations and will actively contribute to the academic, scholarly, and service missions of ACHE.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Teaching and Curriculum

  • Teach online Doctor of Executive Leadership courses within areas of demonstrated academic or professional competence.
  • Provide high-quality, engaging, doctoral-level instruction appropriate for experienced working professionals and executive leaders.
  • Develop, review, and revise course content, instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments.
  • Ensure alignment among course learning outcomes, program learning outcomes, instructional activities, and assessments.
  • Maintain current, evidence-informed course content reflecting contemporary leadership theory, organizational practice, healthcare, business, policy, and other relevant areas.
  • Utilize effective online teaching methodologies and educational technologies to promote student engagement and learning.
  • Provide timely, substantive, and constructive feedback on student assignments and academic performance.
  • Maintain consistent course organization, communication, grading practices, and academic expectations.
  • Participate in continuous curriculum review and improvement.
  • Support the development of new DEL courses, concentrations, certificates, educational pathways, and other curricular initiatives as assigned.
  • Maintain the security and integrity of course materials, assessments, student information, and academic records.
  • Teach courses in other ACHE programs when appropriate based on expertise and institutional needs.

Student Advising and Mentorship

  • Serve as an academic advisor and mentor to DEL students as assigned.
  • Maintain appropriate availability and responsiveness to students.
  • Monitor student academic progression and provide guidance when academic or professional development needs are identified.
  • Provide individualized mentorship that connects doctoral education with students' professional leadership goals and organizational impact.
  • Support students experiencing academic difficulty and participate in remediation activities when appropriate.
  • Refer student concerns involving academic performance, professionalism, or conduct to the DEL Program Director in accordance with institutional policies.
  • Support student scholarly activities, presentations, publications, professional development, and other academic opportunities.
  • Promote a supportive, inclusive, professional, and academically rigorous learning environment.

Scholarship and Research

  • Maintain an active program of scholarship appropriate to academic rank, professional expertise, and institutional expectations.
  • Engage in research, applied scholarship, scholarly writing, peer-reviewed publication, professional presentations, or other recognized forms of scholarly activity.
  • Pursue opportunities for collaborative scholarship with DEL faculty, ACHE faculty, students, and external partners.
  • Mentor DEL students in scholarly inquiry, evidence-based leadership, research, and dissemination of scholarly work when appropriate.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of DEL program-related research and scholarly initiatives.
  • Seek opportunities to translate research and professional experience into knowledge that advances executive leadership, organizational performance, healthcare, education, or other relevant fields.
  • Pursue external funding, grants, or collaborative research opportunities when appropriate.
  • Disseminate scholarly work at local, state, national, and international professional forums.

Program Assessment and Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in the ongoing assessment and evaluation of the DEL curriculum and program.
  • Assist with evaluation of course learning outcomes, program learning outcomes, student performance, and other measures of program effectiveness.
  • Participate in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of assessment data.
  • Contribute to accreditation, institutional effectiveness, and continuous quality-improvement activities as assigned.
  • Participate in periodic review and revision of course materials, curriculum, academic policies, and program processes.
  • Provide recommendations to the DEL Program Director regarding opportunities to improve academic quality, student outcomes, and program effectiveness.
  • Maintain required academic and administrative documentation in accordance with ACHE policies and applicable accreditation standards

Program and Institutional Service

  • Serve as a member of DEL program committees and other ACHE committees as assigned.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum meetings, assessment activities, retreats, and other institutional responsibilities.
  • Participate in DEL admissions activities, including applicant review, interviews, and candidate evaluation as requested.
  • Support DEL orientation, information sessions, recruitment events, student activities, and other program initiatives.
  • Participate in faculty governance and institutional service activities consistent with academic appointment and institutional expectations.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff across ACHE programs to advance interdisciplinary education and institutional initiatives.
  • Support the mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of ACHE.
  • Participate in commencement, academic ceremonies, institutional events, and other activities requiring faculty representation as appropriate.

Recruitment and Program Growth

  • Support recruitment and enrollment initiatives for the DEL program.
  • Participate in information sessions, webinars, conferences, professional meetings, and other recruitment activities as requested.
  • Engage professional networks and organizations to increase awareness of the DEL program.
  • Identify opportunities for educational partnerships, professional collaborations, and student recruitment.
  • Support development of relationships with healthcare systems, academic institutions, professional organizations, government agencies, military organizations, nonprofit organizations, and other potential partners when appropriate.
  • Assist in identifying emerging leadership-development needs and opportunities that may inform future DEL curriculum and program growth.

Professional and External Engagement

  • Maintain active engagement within relevant professional and academic communities.
  • Represent ACHE and the DEL program professionally at conferences, meetings, educational events, and community activities.
  • Participate in local, state, regional, national, or international professional service appropriate to expertise and academic role.
  • Develop relationships that may contribute to educational opportunities, research, scholarship, student development, or institutional partnerships.
  • Maintain professional competence and remain current within areas of academic and professional expertise.

Faculty Responsibilities and Professional Conduct

  • Maintain professional, ethical, and collegial relationships with students, faculty, staff, institutional leadership, and external partners.
  • Demonstrate reliability, accountability, professionalism, and responsiveness in fulfilling assigned responsibilities.

Teaching Load

  • The DEL Faculty member will carry a teaching load as determined by the DEL Program Director and institutional leadership based on program needs, faculty workload expectations, areas of expertise, and other assigned responsibilities.
  • Teaching assignments may include DEL courses as well as courses in other ACHE academic programs when appropriate, based on faculty expertise and institutional needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Doctor of Executive Leadership or their designee.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS


Education and Experience


Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctoral degree from an appropriately accredited institution in leadership, healthcare, business, education, organizational leadership, public administration, or another field relevant to the DEL curriculum.
  • Credentials sufficient to qualify for academic appointment at the level of Assistant Professor or higher.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education, professional education, executive education, or a related academic environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, administration, organizational management, healthcare, education, business, government, military leadership, or another area relevant to the DEL curriculum.
  • Experience developing, managing, or teaching online or technology-enhanced curriculum.
  • Evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and student mentorship.
  • Ability to contribute to doctoral-level education for experienced professionals and executive leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and institutional leadership.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and professional communication skills.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of ACHE.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant progressive leadership or executive experience.
  • Experience teaching at the doctoral or graduate level.
  • Experience developing or delivering online doctoral education.
  • Experience mentoring doctoral or graduate students.
  • Record of peer-reviewed scholarship, professional presentations, applied research, or other scholarly activity.
  • Experience with curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation, or institutional effectiveness.
  • Experience working across disciplines or within complex organizations.
  • Experience developing external partnerships, professional collaborations, or funded projects.
  • Demonstrated national or international professional engagement within an area relevant to the DEL program.
