Fashion Ontology & Front-End Developer

About the Role

We are seeking a unique individual who bridges the worlds of fashion domain expertise and front-end development. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and maintaining our fashion ontology, while also building intuitive React applications that enable our fashion and merchandising teams to interact with and leverage this structured data. Your ability to understand both explicit and implicit needs of our business stakeholders will be key to your success.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust fashion ontologies, taxonomies, and knowledge models in close collaboration with fashion, merchandising, and product teams.
• Translate complex fashion concepts and product attributes into structured, scalable data models that support various business functions.
• Develop, test, and deploy user-friendly React-based applications for managing and visualizing fashion ontology data, ensuring a seamless user experience.
• Gather and refine requirements from non-technical stakeholders, actively seeking to understand underlying needs and unstated challenges.
• Collaborate with backend engineers to define API specifications for data retrieval and manipulation related to the ontology.
• Ensure the consistency, accuracy, and usability of all developed ontologies and front-end applications through rigorous testing and iterative feedback.
• Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams on ontology principles and best practices for interacting with the developed tools.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional experience in front-end development, primarily with React.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Proven experience in developing and deploying single-page applications using modern front-end build tools (e.g., Webpack, Vite).
• Strong understanding of fashion industry terminology, product hierarchies, attributes, and classification systems.
• Experience with ontology design, taxonomy creation, data modeling, or knowledge graph development.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and functional applications.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and asynchronous request handling.

Nice to Have

• Experience with specific ontology development tools (e.g., Protégé, TopBraid Composer) or semantic web technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL).
• Understanding of UI/UX principles and best practices for data-heavy applications.
• Experience in the e-commerce or retail technology sector.
• Familiarity with state management libraries like Redux or Zustand.
• Basic understanding of backend development concepts or languages (e.g., Python, Node.js).
