This is a fully remote position supporting a US client and requires alignment with US Eastern Standard Time (EST) business hours. The successful candidate will work independently, managing multiple active shipments while serving as a direct point of contact for customers, carriers, and
overseas agents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Obtain ocean freight quotes, confirm bookings with carriers, and manage sailing schedules, ERDs, and shipping cutoffs
  • Arrange container pickups, drayage, and terminal deliveries in coordination with transport providers and exporters
  • Prepare shipping instructions, issue and review House and Master Bills of Lading, and complete AES/EEI export filings
  • Coordinate export licenses and commodity-specific documentation where applicable
  • Track container movements, manage exceptions and delays, and resolve operational issues proactively
  • Communicate shipment updates to US customers and international agents, and process shipment invoicing through the TMS

REQUIREMENTS

  • Matric (Grade 12) as a minimum; a National Diploma or relevant NQF Level 6 qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field is advantageous
  • Minimum 3 years of ocean freight operations experience at a freight forwarder or NVOCC, with proven hands-on FCL export experience
  • Strong working knowledge of ocean freight documentation, including Bills of Lading, Incoterms, and export compliance requirements
  • Experience using ocean carrier portals such as Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM, or Hapag-Lloyd
  • Proficiency with a freight forwarding or Transportation Management System (TMS)
  • Comfortable communicating professionally and directly with international clients, carriers, and logistics partners in a remote environment

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience handling US ocean freight exports, including AES/EEI filings and US export regulations
  • Experience coordinating with US-based manufacturers, drayage providers, and port terminals
  • Exposure to ocean freight pricing and rate negotiations with carriers
  • Hazardous cargo experience in line with IMDG regulations

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Strong communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Professionalism and reliability
