The Associate Attorney – Fee Motion will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, filing, and arguing motions for attorney fees and costs arising from settlements, judgments, and other qualifying case resolutions.
The attorney will independently manage attorney fee recovery matters, including fee petitions, supporting declarations, memoranda of costs, motions to tax costs, replies, oppositions, and related post-resolution proceedings.
This is a specialized litigation position focused exclusively on attorney fee recovery rather than traditional case management or general trial litigation.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience preparing and arguing fee motions, analyzing billing records, calculating lodestar amounts, and developing persuasive legal arguments supporting recoverable fees and costs.
Required Qualifications

- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
- Minimum of 3 years of civil litigation experience.
- Demonstrated experience drafting attorney fee motions, fee petitions, and related law and motion pleadings.
- Strong understanding of California civil procedure, court rules, and statutory fee-shifting provisions.
- Experience analyzing billing records and calculating lodestar amounts.
- Experience preparing supporting declarations and documentation for fee recovery.
- Exceptional legal research, persuasive writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple motions and competing deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with attorneys and legal support staff.
- Ability to work remotely or in a hybrid arrangement while maintaining productivity and court deadline compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience handling attorney fee motions under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act.
- Experience in California Lemon Law or other consumer protection litigation.
- Experience opposing fee reductions and defending hourly rates, billing practices, and lodestar multipliers.
- Familiarity with California state and federal court fee motion procedures.
- Experience handling motions for attorney fees and costs following settlements or judgments.
- Experience negotiating attorney fee and cost settlements with opposing counsel.
- Familiarity with Filevine or comparable legal case management software.
- Experience coordinating with fee motion paralegals and legal support staff.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a California-licensed attorney with at least three years of civil litigation experience and demonstrated specialization in attorney fee motions and cost recovery.
The candidate should be comfortable independently managing a substantial volume of fee motions, preparing persuasive legal briefs, analyzing billing records, calculating lodestar amounts, negotiating fee settlements, and appearing in court for motion hearings.
The strongest candidates will demonstrate:
- Active California State Bar membership in good standing.
- Direct experience drafting and filing attorney fee motions.
- Strong California civil procedure knowledge.
- Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act or California Lemon Law experience.
- Experience with lodestar calculations and supporting declarations.
- Experience arguing fee motions and responding to fee disputes.
