BCNatal | Fetal Medicine Research Center is conducting an ambitious research project in the field of fetal surgery and therapy to develop a fetal incubator, which involves animal experimentation. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the team as a Fetal Support Monitoring Specialist, with the monitoring of animal experimentation as the core of the role, together with responsibility for the operational side of project materials: preparation of material for procedures, inventories, and order management.

BCNatal | Fetal Medicine Research Center, directed by Prof. Eduard Gratacós, is a multidisciplinary research centre in fetal and perinatal medicine, recognised as one of the world’s best research teams in the field. Accredited by the Spanish government as an excellence research centre, it works to find

BCNatal-FMRC is the research branch of the BCNatal clinical centre, formed by the maternal-fetal medicine and neonatology departments of Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor animal welfare and experimental procedures, following established protocols and ethical principles for animal research.

  • Support in vivo experiments and surgical procedures, including preparation of materials, reagents and medication, and assistance in the operating room.

  • Collect, process, analyse and store biological samples, ensuring accurate maintenance of the project biobank.

  • Collect, record and manage experimental data, maintaining accurate documentation of procedures, incidents and relevant events.

  • Support the preparation, set-up, verification and safe operation of laboratory materials and equipment.

  • Manage laboratory supplies and logistics, including inventories, orders, suppliers, storage and transfer of materials between sites.

  • Contribute to general laboratory organisation and quality procedures, including SOP preparation and updates, aseptic working practices, troubleshooting and effective coordination with the research and technical teams.

WE OFFER:

  • Permanent position (two years project).

  • Full-time position: 37.5 hours per week.

  • Working pattern:

    • During non-experimental period: Monday to Friday.

    • During experimental period: Monday to Sunday (organised in rotating 12-hour shifts).

  • Competitive salary depending on the candidate’s profile and experience.

THE PROFILE WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • The successful candidate should hold a university degree in life sciences (biology, biomedicine, biotechnology, bioengineering, veterinary medicine, or related fields). A master’s degree in a biomedical, research, or animal experimentation field will be valued.

  • Certification to work with experimental animals accredited by the Generalitat de Catalunya will be positively valued and, in particular, holding it without species restriction, as the project uses a large animal model.

  • During experimental period, the post requires availability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including night shifts and weekends, during periods with ongoing experiments requiring continuous monitoring. During non-experimental period, work is carried out from Monday to Friday.

  • Candidates should be research-inclined and proactive, with good organisational and planning skills and the ability to work autonomously. Openness to learn and adaptability will be highly valued for this position. Spanish is required; Catalan and English will be positively valued.
