The Role The Field Medical Advisor role is pivotal in establishing and nurturing relationships within the oncology medical community, including healthcare practitioners (e.g. oncologists, surgical oncologists), policy makers, payers, patient groups, and healthcare administrators to advance understanding of our science and gather insights from across the healthcare ecosystem. This role enhances patient outcomes through the peer-to-peer scientific exchange of Moderna’s mRNA platform science, fostering trust through personalized and digital engagement. The Field Medical Advisor plays a key role in strengthening Moderna's scientific presence and translating these insights into actions that benefit HCPs and their patients. In this role, you will be at the forefront of Moderna’s mission to deliver new mRNA-based therapies across oncology indications, requiring a blend of scientific expertise, strategic thinking, strong internal collaboration, and a commitment to ethical engagement. Here’s what you’ll do Strategic Engagement: Develop and execute territory engagement plans aligned to the medical priorities, leveraging a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare ecosystem and therapeutic areas to share Moderna’s science and data in alignment with the company strategy and customer needs. Communication Excellence: Utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills to simplify complex scientific topics, understand customer perspectives, and engage a broad range of stakeholders, employing tools like Moderna's Scientific Communications Platform and generative AI offerings to make the engagement more impactful. Medical Intelligence: Listen with curiosity to gather and report meaningful customer insights that inform broader medical strategy. These insights help identify unmet medical needs, advance medical knowledge, identify data gaps, and refine strategies to enhance patient care. Stakeholder Interaction: Engage with key stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem, including KOLs, scientific societies, public health institutions, patient advocacy groups, academic and research institutions, regulatory bodies, policymakers, and government officials. Apply strategic and empathetic listening while providing scientific support aligned with Moderna's objectives. Scientific Expertise: Engage in rich scientific dialogue about Moderna’s mRNA platform and oncology programs, sharing sharing current clinical data, research findings, and scientific concepts aligned with Moderna's scientific narrative, placing them in the context of cancer treatment paradigms. Maintain a working knowledge of scientific dialogue on Health Economic (HEOR) and Real-World Data/Evidence (RWD/RWE), with the ability to engage in scientific discussions on these topics as they relate to outcomes in cancer patients. Clinical Research Support: Collaborate with clinical development and research teams to support clinical trials and research collaborations. Identify and connect with potential clinical trial sites and investigators, assist in educating site staff about Moderna’s investigational cancer therapies, and facilitate the execution of Investigator-Sponsored Trials. Ensure alignment of these research efforts with Moderna’s medical objectives while maintaining compliance with all research and pharmacovigilance guidelines. Enhancement of Patient Care and Outcomes: Collaborate across Moderna and the healthcare ecosystem to understand problems and design solutions that enhance patient care and outcomes. Management of Medical Strategies: Execute medical engagement activities including advisory boards, partnerships, round tables, and conferences. Successfully navigate Moderna’s processes related to Fellowships, Grants, Sponsorships, and Investigator Sponsored Studies. Compliance and Reporting: Adhere to ethical standards and protocols, promptly documenting your work in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, reporting adverse events and product quality complaints. What We Expect from You Community Involvement: Actively participate in healthcare communities to understand and communicate local and regional challenges to Moderna, contribute to improving patient pathways, identifying unmet needs, and proposing solutions. This requires building and maintaining strong relationships with Moderna stakeholders across various functions. Knowledge and Development: Continuously build expertise in Moderna’s mRNA platform and its application, staying informed on industry trends, regulations, healthcare policies, digital technologies, emotional intelligence, and engagement skills. Occasionally seek opportunities to mentor, coach, and support others’ development. Digital Proficiency: Effectively utilize digital and AI-powered tools for engagement, demonstrating a "Digital First" mindset, and seeking innovative ways to enhance interactions. Collaboration and Training: Work closely with internal teams, customers, and other stakeholders to share knowledge and contribute to internal training efforts. Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications) Terminal degree in a Scientific Discipline (MD, PhD, PharmD) or equivalent is required. Minimum of 3 years of relevant clinical, research, therapeutic area, or disease-area experience beyond the terminal degree. Ability to conduct peer to peer level scientific discussion with key external stakeholders Demonstrated scientific excellence and strong focus on scientific education and dialogue Excellent stakeholder management, communication, networking and presentation skills Ability to work independently, organize priorities, and operate effectively in a changing field environment Understanding of pharmaceutical industry compliance expectations, including laws, regulations, ethical guidelines, and company policies Fluency in English (both written and spoken). Familiarity with local regulatory environment and a basic understanding across other key regions (e.g. FDA, EMA, and other regional health authorities). Proficiency in digital technology (Microsoft Office Suite) and agility with virtual presentation platforms (e.g. MS Teams, Zoom, Webex). Understanding of the process and need for thorough and timely documentation in a CRM system. Ability to travel up to 75% as required. Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications) Prior experience in melanoma (research, clinical, or medical affairs). Prior experience in immuno-oncology. Prior experience working with partnered and/or co-developed programs. Scientific and/or medical publication record preferred. Field-based medical or Medical Science Liaison (MSL) experience preferred. Proven ability to develop and manage KOL relationships and execute strategic territory engagement plans. Advanced proficiency in scientific dialogue, empathetic listening, and gathering actionable medical insights. Established relationships within the oncology medical community and a strong understanding of the healthcare ecosystem, including policy and regulatory agencies that influence patient care. Demonstrated ability to navigate compliance requirements while building trusted stakeholder relationships. Knowledge of health economics and real-world data/evidence (RWD/RWE), with the ability to engage in scientific discussions on these topics. Experience using digital-first approaches for stakeholder engagement, including AI-enabled tools and innovative platforms. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs.
