Field Medical Outcomes Business Unit Lead

The Field Medical Outcomes (FMO) Business Unit Lead is responsible for the leadership, execution, and coordination of an FMO business unit spanning multiple therapeutic areas. As a leader of leaders, this role manages and develops a team of FMO Team Leaders, ensuring alignment of people, priorities, and resources with U.S. Medical Affairs strategies and business unit objectives. The FMO Business Unit Lead partners cross-functionally with U.S. Medical Affairs, Global Medical Affairs, Payer Account Medical, Medical Outcomes & Analytics, Commercial leadership, and FMO and Medical Affairs leaders to develop and execute customer-centric medical strategies that support business unit goals while ensuring compliance with Pfizer and external policies, guidelines, and regulations.
As a member of the FMO Lead Leadership Team, the FMO Business Unit Lead helps shape the vision, strategic direction, and implementation of cross-functional customer engagement across the business unit. The role has direct people management responsibility for FMO Team Leaders whose teams deliver medical outcomes support through health care economic information (HCEI), real-world evidence (RWE), population health insights, customer collaborations, evidence generation activities, and data-driven approaches that address the needs of organized customers and healthcare decision-makers. The role also partners with Commercial Group Leads to align FMO activities with business priorities while maintaining appropriate medical governance, compliance, and reporting standards.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Personnel Management
- Lead, manage, develop, and coach Field Medical Outcomes Team Leaders across the business unit spanning multiple therapeutic areas.
- Guide work prioritization and resource allocation across Team Leaders and authorize team-related expenditures, including travel, training, supplies, and other business expenses.
- Ensure appropriate colleague deployment and account prioritization based on business unit priorities.
- Retain key talent within the FMO organization and contribute to the identification, selection, and development of Team Leaders and colleagues.
- Develop and maintain a high-performing culture across the leadership team and broader FMO organization.
- Manage performance reviews, salary planning, promotions, colleague development, retention, engagement, and conflict resolution in partnership with People Experience.
- Conduct supervisory field days with colleagues to support development, coaching, and alignment across the business unit.
Strategy and Business Planning
- Help shape and execute medical plans aligned with U.S. Medical Affairs strategies and objectives across the business unit's therapeutic areas.
- Drive strategic planning activities for the assigned business unit.
- Ensure alignment with the medical content approval process and timely approval of medical content in accordance with Pfizer policies and SOPs.
- Integrate customer insights into national tools, resources, programs, and strategic initiatives through cross-functional and cross-business-unit collaboration.
- Represent the Field Medical Outcomes Lead on teams across Pfizer U.S., Global, and other business units to support Field Medical Governance and strategic initiatives.
- Serve in leadership roles on internal workstreams and committees where strategic decisions are developed and executed.
- Collaborate compliantly with HQ Medical Affairs, FMO leaders and colleagues, Medical Affairs colleagues, and Commercial partners to shape and implement customer-centric medical strategies.
- Partner with Commercial Group Leads to align FMO activities, resource planning, reporting, and operational priorities across the business unit while maintaining appropriate medical governance and compliance standards.
Operational Management
- Maintain current knowledge of FDA regulations and other requirements impacting interactions with healthcare professionals and organized customers.
- Anticipate, adopt, and lead teams in effectively leveraging evolving digital capabilities that enhance medical communications and customer engagement.
- Champion the adoption of innovative technologies, digital solutions, and AI-enabled capabilities that enhance team efficiency, customer engagement, and data-informed decision-making.
- Lead adaptation to changes in the regional and national healthcare landscape.
- Maintain strong market and customer knowledge and stay informed on scientific and medical literature relevant to the business unit's therapeutic areas.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable Pfizer SOPs, policies, and guidance documents.
- Ensure Field Medical Outcomes Team Leaders' activities are conducted and documented in compliance with internal and external policies, guidelines, and regulations and that required training is completed on time.
- Ensure direct reports and their teams provide objective, scientifically sound medical information regarding Pfizer products and disease states using pharmacoeconomic models, outcomes tools, and data analytics.
- Participate in budget planning activities with the Field Medical Outcomes Lead.
- Manage and oversee administrative and project management support resources across the business unit.
- Ensure effective, compliant communication and collaboration among HQ Medical Affairs, FMO leaders and colleagues, Commercial partners, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Medical Governance team to support organizational priorities and compliance.
- Demonstrate accountability and decision-making with alliance partners and external collaborators that impact the broader organization.
- Effectively communicate and advocate for the value of FMO colleagues with internal and external stakeholders.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Education / Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a health science required.
- PharmD, PhD, or equivalent terminal doctoral degree (e.g., Doctor of Nursing Practice, Doctor of Physical Therapy) highly preferred.
- 12+ years of relevant experience required with a Bachelor's degree, 10+ years of relevant experience with an MBA/MS, or 7+ years of relevant experience with a PharmD, PhD, JD, or equivalent terminal doctoral degree.
- Previous Pfizer or other relevant FMO management experience as a direct line manager required.
- Significant demonstrated leadership skills in a matrixed environment required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with internal/external SOPs, rules, and regulations governing Pfizer/customer interactions and relationships.
- Expertise or experience within the business unit's designated therapeutic area(s) is highly desirable.
- Previous FMO experience or broader Field Medical experience.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $254,100.00 to $423,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 25.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
