Field Service Technician – New England

CNC & Industrial Woodworking Machinery

$32.00–$40.00+ per hour, with higher rates available based on CNC experience and technical expertise
Overtime opportunities • Up to $10,000 in annual bonuses • Potential for six-figure total earnings

Home-based role with extensive regional travel and frequent overnight stays.

Your Expertise Keeps Production Moving

When machinery goes down, customers need someone who can identify the problem, find a solution, and get them running again. At SCM Group, that person could be you.

We’re seeking a hands-on Field Service Technician with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to install and service advanced CNC and industrial woodworking machinery. If you take pride in solving difficult problems, working independently, and seeing the results of your work, this role offers variety, technical challenges, and direct impact.

You’ll take ownership of field assignments, build relationships with customers, and collaborate with fellow technicians on complex installations and repairs—all while expanding your knowledge across SCM technologies.

Your Territory & Travel

This position supports customers throughout New England, with preferred home locations in Boston, Worcester, Providence, Hartford, Springfield, and Manchester, New Hampshire.

You’ll be based from home and travel to customer and dealer sites by air and automobile. Extensive travel and frequent overnight stays are central to this role, so candidates must be comfortable spending substantial time away from home and should reside within the region near a major airport.

What You’ll Do

  • Bring machinery into production: Assemble, install, commission, and start up SCM CNC and industrial woodworking equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems: Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control systems, including relay circuits, electronic boards, hardware, and software.
  • Keep equipment performing: Complete preventive maintenance, repairs, and warranty and billable service work.
  • Help customers succeed: Train machine users on equipment operation and clearly explain service findings and next steps.
  • Deliver dependable service: Maintain professional communication, punctuality, and a strong focus on safety and quality.
  • Document your work: Accurately record service activities, technical findings, and time in the CRM system.
  • Work as part of the service team: Collaborate on complex projects, share knowledge, and communicate technical feedback and commercial opportunities to internal departments.

What You Bring

  • Hands-on experience in industrial equipment maintenance, installation, or technical service.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Practical knowledge of mechanics, electricity, pneumatics, and industrial automation.
  • The ability to work independently, solve problems methodically, and communicate professionally with customers.
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license in good standing and the ability to travel regularly by air and automobile.
  • Availability for emergency night and weekend work and participation in an after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Fluent English; Italian or Spanish language skills are a plus.

CNC machinery, PLC, industrial automation, or similar equipment experience is especially valuable. Technical education in an industrial discipline and experience with SCM technologies are also preferred.

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly compensation: $32.00–$40.00+ per hour, with higher rates available based on CNC experience and technical expertise.
  • Overtime opportunities to increase your earnings.
  • Eligibility for up to $10,000 in annual bonuses, subject to bonus program terms and performance requirements.
  • Potential for six-figure total annual earnings with overtime and eligible bonuses; actual earnings vary.
  • Paid travel time: Technicians are paid from the moment they leave their home or hotel to travel to customer job sites.
  • Daily per diem while traveling for service assignments.
  • Company-provided rental cars for service travel.
  • Extensive hands-on training with senior Field Service Engineers and Field Service Technicians.
  • Technical support from our internal team to help troubleshoot problems and resolve field service challenges.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options.
  • Company HSA contribution of up to $4,375 annually.
  • 401(k) company match: 100% on the first 3% contributed and 50% on the next 2%.
  • Company-paid life insurance and disability coverage.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Optional supplemental insurance, including accident and critical illness coverage.
