Description

The Field Service Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, coordination, execution, financial management, and closeout of Field Service projects from project handoff through customer completion.

The role serves as the primary coordination point between the customer, Field Service Engineers, regional service operations, Engineering, Sales, manufacturing/project teams, subcontractors, vendors, commissioning agents, and other project stakeholders.

The Field Service Project Manager owns the overall project execution plan, including scope, schedule, site readiness, resource requirements, financial performance, customer communication, risk management, change management, documentation, escalation, and closeout.

Field Service Engineers lead the technical execution of startup, commissioning, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, training, and other field activities, while the Field Service Project Manager ensures the overall engagement is properly planned, coordinated, documented, communicated, and completed. This mirrors the ownership model already documented for the Service organization.

This role is expected to travel 50% of the time to customer sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own Project Execution: Manage Field Service projects from handoff through closeout, maintaining control of scope, schedule, cost, resources, risk, and customer commitments.
  • Drive Project Readiness: Validate project handoff information, documentation, site readiness, equipment scope, customer requirements, and mobilization requirements before field resources are deployed.
  • Coordinate Field Resources: Partner with Regional Service Managers, planners, Field Service Engineers, subcontractors, and vendors to align qualified resources with startup, commissioning, outage, and project schedules.
  • Lead Customer Communication: Serve as the primary project-management contact, providing proactive updates and maintaining clear ownership of open issues, decisions, risks, commitments, and next steps.
  • Manage Startup & Commissioning: Coordinate pre-energization, startup, functional testing, Sequence of Operations validation, integrated testing, operator training, and turnover while Field Service Engineers lead technical field execution.
  • Manage Project Financials & Change: Track project costs, cost-to-complete, forecast, margin, billing requirements, and scope changes while identifying and recovering change-order opportunities.
  • Manage Risk, Safety & Quality: Identify and escalate schedule, technical, safety, quality, resource, commercial, and customer risks early; establish mitigation plans and drive corrective actions through closure.

  • Ensure Documentation & Closeout: Maintain required project records and ensure field reports, commissioning documentation, test results, redlines, billing inputs, customer deliverables, and final closeout requirements are completed accurately and on time.
