Field Service Technician IV Hybrid • Corporate Headquarters - Charlotte, NC 28278 Apply Overview Position Type Full Time Job Shift Day Education Level 2 Year Degree Travel Percentage Up to 75% Apply Description Okuma America Corporation is seeking a skilled Field Service Technician IV to provide expert technical support, machine installations, and repair services for our customers across North America. In this role, you will diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, software, and automation-related issues on Okuma CNC machine tools and related equipment. As a subject matter expert, you will work directly with customers, distributors, and internal teams to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and ensure optimal machine performance. This position plays a critical role in supporting customer success by resolving technical challenges that exceed distributor support capabilities and by contributing to the continuous improvement of service documentation and technical resources. Key Responsibilities Travel to customer locations to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Okuma machine tools and automation systems. Perform installations and commissioning of new machine models and advanced manufacturing equipment. Install retrofit packages and implement machine upgrades or design improvements. Diagnose and resolve issues involving mechanical systems, machine alignment, controls, hardware, software, peripherals, and automation technologies. Provide technical support to customers and distributors via phone, email, and remote troubleshooting tools. Document service activities and communicate findings through detailed service reports and technical documentation. Develop and maintain technical bulletins, repair procedures, and "how-to" guides that strengthen distributor service capabilities. Collaborate with distributors, customers, and internal service teams to ensure timely issue resolution and a positive customer experience. Maintain compliance with all company policies, safety standards, and best practices. Continuously identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance service delivery, and add value to customers. What We're Looking For Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills. Experience working with CNC machine tools, manufacturing equipment, automation systems, or related industrial machinery. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hardware, software, and control systems. Ability to work independently in a customer-facing field service environment. Qualifications Experience/Training/Education • Associates Degree in Electronics or equivalent experience • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in CNC controls, servo systems, PLC's, automation, as well as fundamental mechanical background including precision measurement, machine tool theory, hydraulics, and pneumatics • 5 years of prior machine tool experience (Okuma preferred) • FANUC CNC experience (preferred) • Okuma-Howa product knowledge (preferred) • Prior technical writing experience (preferred) Knowledge/Skills/Abilities General: • Customer centric behavior and great team attitude • Must effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities • Ability to work independently or as part of a team • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment Technical: • Proficient in the use of precision measuring/diagnostic equipment. Not limited to, but include the use of: laser, ball bar, micrometers, calibers, precision levels, precision indicators, dynamometers, etc. • Advanced assembly drawing interpretation • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills • Customer centric behavior and great team attitude • Basic mechanical/electrical skills • Ability to read blueprints, electrical schematics a plus • Basic use of hand tools and variety of electrical and mechanical devices, such as precision measuring equipment, multimeters, oscilloscope, cranes, forklifts, etc. • Use of basic PC tools, such as Outlook, Word, Excel • Strong troubleshooting skills Communication: • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as exceptional listening skills • Exceptional ability to speak and write effectively in a business environment • Exceptional ability to ask necessary questions Math & Reasoning: • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions • Strong math skills • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and willingness to adapt to change and take initiative Physical and Environmental Elements Physical Demands: • Ability to sit continuously for 1/4 of the normal work shift, and stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for at least 3/4 of the normal work shift • Ability to lift and carry, push, or pull up to 70 pounds • Ability to stoop, crouch and reach • Ability to talk or hear continuously • Ability to see clearly to do all work-related tasks (clear or corrected vision at 20 inches or less) • Finger dexterity is required frequently for over 3/4 of the normal work shift including operating a phone, computer/ electronic equipment, electronic tools, pallet jack, and forklift Work Environment: • About half of the position’s functions are performed in the office environment with standard equipment and moderate noise levels (examples: computers, printers, fax, copiers, light traffic, and phone) • The other half of the position’s functions are performed either at a customer site or in the Okuma warehouse/ showroom. Will often interact with the production/warehouse environment. Thus, the employee may work in an open warehouse area where temperatures may be subject to outdoor conditions in terms of cold and heat. There is exposure to various tools and equipment as well as forklift operations and corresponding noise levels • A small portion of the position’s functions may be performed in the office environment with standard equipment and moderate noise levels (examples: computers, printers, fax, copiers, light traffic, and phone) Special Requirements • Maintain annual OSHA safety certifications as required by job duties • Frequent travel required (75+%
