Finance & Accounting Coordinator

As Finance & Accounting Coordinator, you will join an eight-person Finance team that provides the financial foundation needed for an international non-profit organisation to achieve its impact goals and meet its regulatory requirements. Accurate and timely financial administration enables the organisation to move resources to movements and partners around the world with confidence.

Working under the supervision of the Director of Accounting & Compliance, you will take ownership of key accounting and closing activities while supporting the wider financial operations. The international scope makes this role particularly interesting: you will work across multiple entities, currencies and funder requirements in a predominantly remote environment. This requires accuracy, sound judgement and curiosity. As you grow into the role, you will also have the opportunity to identify improvements and contribute to smarter and more efficient Finance processes.

What will you do?

  • You will maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks Online, including accounts payable and receivable, revenue, expenses, payroll and invoices, in accordance with Dutch GAAP;
  • In addition, you will prepare and check payments and bank transfers, ensuring proper authorisation and supporting documentation;
  • You will support the monthly, quarterly and year-end close through reconciliations, accruals and reclassifications, while resolving discrepancies;
  • You will also contribute to financial reports, annual accounts and the annual report;
  • Furthermore, you will ensure expenditure is correctly allocated to programmes and cost centres;
  • You will review staff expense claims and maintain documentation for vendor onboarding and verification;
  • You will support external audits by preparing documentation and following up on observations and recommendations;
  • Finally, you will identify opportunities to improve Finance processes through innovation, automation and better use of tools.

Who are you?

  • You hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or another finance-related field, or have an equivalent qualification or experience;
  • You have at least three years of relevant accounting and bookkeeping experience within a European Finance or Accounting environment;
  • You have hands-on experience with journal entries, account reconciliations and month-end closing, combined with knowledge of a European GAAP standard and/or IFRS;
  • You have advanced Excel skills and data cleaning and validation across multi-sheet datasets;
  • You are motivated to contribute to the organisation's mission through strong financial stewardship;
  • You manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and compliance;
  • You exercise sound judgement and balance risk, compliance and organisational values;
  • You work independently, take ownership and are comfortable in a fast-moving, remote-first environment;
  • You enjoy collaborating across teams and cultures;
  • You are fluent in written and spoken English. Additional languages are a plus.

What do you get in return?

  • A full-time position of 40 hours per week;
  • 25 days of paid annual leave and three shutdown weeks per year;
  • A monthly wellbeing allowance;
  • Remote and flexible working arrangements, including a home office contribution;
  • The possibility to work fully remotely within CET +/- 2 hours, mainly during CET working hours;
  • Approximately 15% travel, including in-person team meetings and retreats;
  • If you live outside the Netherlands, your contract will be issued through an Employer of Record partner.

The organisation is unable to provide visa sponsorship or procure a work permit for prospective candidates.
