As a Finance Manager Global Pathology & Microbiology you will lead financial strategy and business partnerships for Global Pathology and Microbiology reference laboratory operations. The role owns forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and financial modeling, supports global pathology capacity and demand planning, and manages a team of finance professionals. This role partners closely with Pathology and Microbiology leadership, Lab Operations, Product Management, and TechOps.
Why this role matters:
You will be a key contributor to the financial success of the IDEXX Companion Animal Group (CAG), support business growth, and ultimately contribute to better outcomes for animals’ health.
In this role:
- You will cover the following areas:
Business Partnering
- Serve as the senior finance partner to leadership across Pathology and Microbiology, shaping decisions on investment, capacity, and margin performance.
- Provide decision support on test mix, pricing, volume growth, productivity initiatives, and margin performance.
- Own the identification, quantification, and tracking of savings and productivity initiatives to ensure benefits are realized.
- Challenge assumptions and ensure operational decisions are financially sound.
Pathology Capacity & Demand Planning
- Partner with the global capacity and demand planning team by reviewing case volume forecasts by discipline (clinical pathology, cytology, histopathology), region, and lab. Align the volume assumptions with the financial plan, and flag where they diverge from budget, actuals, or business expectations.
- Model capacity levers, including pathologist hiring, contract and locum coverage, case routing across the lab network, digital pathology, and workflow automation, and recommend the most cost-effective mix.
- In partnership with the global capacity planning team and Pathology leaders, drive standardization on definitions and methods for non-case reading work and build financial views for onboarding regions that are consistent with existing ones.
- Serve as financial steward of the global pathology demand and capacity plan outputs, partnering with that team to review results for financial reasonableness, explain drivers of change, and ensure staffing and cost outputs are credible to leadership.
FP&A & Reporting
- Lead strategic planning, annual budget, and forecast processes for Pathology & Microbiology, integrating capacity and demand assumptions.
- Oversee period-end close, including accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual P&L reporting for revenue, gross margin, capital, and operating expenses; deliver actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Lead financial modeling for high-impact initiatives, including new test launches, portfolio expansion, automation, and productivity investments, and translate results into forecast and long-range plan impacts.
Governance & Controls
- Serve as the accountable finance owner for control effectiveness within Pathology & Microbiology, escalating material gaps to senior finance leadership.
- Identify control gaps and lead mitigation, while driving process improvement and automation in planning and reporting.
People Leadership
- Manage a team of finance professionals, assigning work, setting goals and priorities, and evaluating results.
- Coach and develop team members, building a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across a global, multi-site environment.
What you need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field required; Master's degree or MBA preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive FP&A or finance experience, including ownership of complex planning cycles and senior-level business partnership.
- 5+ years of people management experience, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- Experience with capacity planning, demand forecasting, or workforce planning; laboratory, healthcare diagnostics, or regulated operations experience strongly preferred.
- Strong financial modeling and analytical skills; advanced Excel and PowerPoint, with BI tools and financial systems experience preferred.
- Proven ability to influence senior leaders and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, global environment.
