The Manager - Journal Entry Close Finalization is accountable for the daily delivery, quality, and continuity of the centralized SAP CAR sales Journal Entry Close for an assigned Store portfolio and Back Office service-delivery cell. The role translates the Centralized strategy into disciplined execution, ensuring timely Store Close, application of required controls, management of exceptions and adjustments, and escalation of findings that may affect Store Operations or financial integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily centralized SAP CAR Journal Entry Close execution for the assigned portfolio of Stores, countries, banners, or service-delivery cell.
  • Ensure that required operational controls are applied, findings are documented, and exceptions or adjustments are resolved or escalated within agreed service expectations.
  • Own daily performance management for timeliness, completion, accuracy, backlog, aging, rework, productivity, and capacity.
  • Govern the corresponding Back Office team, including workload planning, service quality, adherence to SOPs, training readiness, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Protect Store Operations by coordinating rapid resolution of close blockers with Sales Reconciliation, Set Up, Cash & Treasury, Electronic Payments, Financial Services, Retail Accounting, Product, and Tech.
  • Manage backlog and exception prioritization based on financial risk, Store impact, close deadlines, and leadership escalation criteria.
  • Lead hypercare and stabilization for newly migrated Stores and ensure a controlled handoff from the Set Up Team into steady-state operations.
  • Identify recurring defects, rework, and manual dependencies, escalating trends to Controls and opportunities for structural resolution to Transformation.
  • Maintain current SOPs, playbooks, training content, evidence standards, and business continuity procedures for the assigned scope.
  • Maintain sufficient hands-on process proficiency to coordinate or temporarily support critical close activities during contingency events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in Record to Report, Retail Accounting, Journal Entry Close, reconciliations, Shared Services, or Finance Operations.
  • Experience leading operational teams, managing service levels, and resolving time-sensitive financial issues.
  • Advanced English proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP CAR, SAP, Store Sales Accounting, or high-volume close operations.
  • Experience managing outsourced or managed-service teams.
  • Certifications in Continuous Improvement, Operational Excellence, or Project Management, such as Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or local equivalent, are considered a plus but are not required. Demonstrated experience leading Record to Report operations, Journal Entry Close, service delivery, and high-volume finance processes will be prioritized.
  • Professional certifications are valued as evidence of technical knowledge and continued professional development; however, they are not mandatory requirements. Relevant experience, leadership capability, business judgment, and demonstrated results in complex finance environments will remain the primary selection criteria.

Leadership Expectations

  • Deliver timely and accurate Store Close execution while protecting financial integrity and Store Operations.
  • Lead Walmart and Back Office teams through clear expectations, disciplined performance management, and operational accountability.
  • Manage performance through KPIs, SLAs, quality, productivity, backlog, and capacity.
  • Make timely decisions and escalate material risks before they affect Store Operations or financial reporting.
  • Build effective working relationships with Stores, Operations, Product, Tech, Retail Accounting, Treasury, Electronic Payments, Financial Services, and other Finance teams.
  • Promote standardization, first-time-right execution, problem solving, and root-cause elimination.
  • Maintain operational readiness and coordinate business continuity response when the Back Office service is disrupted.
  • Develop associates through coaching, feedback, cross-training, and clear accountability.
