We are hiring for a Finance Research and Policy Specialist to join our Accounting team!

Employment Status: Full-time, Permanent.

Location: Remote role. While preference will be given to candidates in Alberta, qualified candidates from across Canada will be considered. The successful incumbent will be required to work/meet with the team in-person at one of our offices in Calgary or Edmonton at minimum once quarterly.

The Finance Research and Policy Specialist provides technical accounting expertise to support accurate and compliant financial reporting. This role reviews and assesses new and complex transactions, researches IFRS and regulatory requirements, and monitors emerging accounting developments to evaluate organizational impact.

As a key resource for Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting (ICOFR), the Specialist supports control implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement. Working closely with financial reporting teams, this position helps ensure regulatory filings and financial statements comply with IFRS standards and supports the development of accounting policies, technical guidance, and process efficiencies.

What You'll be Doing:

IFRS Research and Implementation:

  • Maintain current knowledge of IFRS, regulatory requirements, and emerging accounting standards.
  • Assess and communicate the financial reporting impact of new or changing IFRS and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct research and prepare clear accounting position papers, memos, and supporting documentation.
  • Support quarterly and annual financial reporting, disclosures, and audit requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve accounting documentation, processes, and controls.
  • Partner with stakeholders to interpret accounting impacts and communicate financial information effectively.
  • Perform qualitative analysis and identify, escalate, and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation standards, version controls, and reporting deadlines.

    Financial Reporting/Accounting:

    • Ensure accounting policies, procedures, and the accounting manual are current and consistently applied.
    • Identify and implement process and reporting efficiencies.
    • Support system enhancements, including design, configuration, and testing.
    • Assist with the maintenance, monitoring, documentation, and testing of internal controls (ICOFR/COSO).
    • Partner with stakeholders to promote control compliance and continuous improvement.

    Leadership:

    • Lead and influence team members with confidence, despite having no direct reports.
    • Build strong partnerships across teams to foster collaboration and accountability.

    What you Bring:

    Experience:

    • This position requires between 3 – 5 years relevant post designation accounting experience.
    • Experience in interpreting and making supportable accounting recommendations and decisions in accordance with IFRS.
    • A dynamic self-starter, capable of working independently and within a team.
    • Ability to manage and work within an environment with ongoing change.
    • Experience in internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR) and financial/regulatory reporting
    • Thorough working knowledge of IFRS and has experience in researching and drafting of position papers/white papers and accounting memos.

    Education:

    A CPA designation is a minimum requirement for this role.
