As the Finance Specialist for the Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota (MNDK) business unit, you will provide advanced financial management support across a shared services unit (pod), partnering with the Finance Manager, Finance Director, and business unit staff to deliver high-quality financial services. You will support the implementation of financial strategy to meet business priorities and finance needs and serve as a trusted partner by delivering financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, month- and year-end close activities, financial analysis, ongoing financial management. and other financial management activities while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and best practices.


You will also monitor financial performance; identify trends, risks, and opportunities; and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency, consistency, and stewardship of organizational resources. You will respond to moderately complex financial questions.


Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain the accuracy, integrity, and quality of financial data, reporting, systems, and business processes.
  • Support compliance with organizational policies, internal controls, audit requirements, donor restrictions, and applicable regulatory requirements while identifying and escalating potential issues.
  • Provide guidance to staff on finance processes, systems, reporting tools, and standard operating procedures and may coordinate or deliver training as needed.
  • Partner with the Finance Manager, the Finance Director, Operations, Conservation, and Philanthropy staff to support financial planning, implementation of organizational priorities, and effective stewardship of resources.
  • Contribute to finance initiatives, process improvements, system implementations, and cross-functional projects that enhance consistency and effectiveness across the pod.
  • Serves as the primary day-to-day finance contact for assigned staff and budget managers, responding to questions and ensuring issue resolution with the Finance Manager.
  • Coordinate with the Budget & Forecast Specialist, Reporting & Private Award Specialist, and the Accounting Specialists to ensure timely and consistent finance service delivery across MNDK.
  • Support monthly and annual financial close activities, including reconciliations, variance review, data validation, certifications, and issue resolution.
  • Develop and maintains documentation, procedures, templates, and training materials supporting financial management activities for MNDK and the GPD.

This is a remote position located within in the Great Plains Division (Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas) with a strong preference for residents of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota.


Travel is expected (approximately 10%.)

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
  • Technical experience with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports, and financial management tools.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training with the U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance, state and local regulations, multilateral and international regulations, and standard contract clauses, as applicable.



Salary Information:


The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $46,000 - $70,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
