Role purpose
The Financial Accountant will be a key member of the Group Finance team, with a broad range of responsibilities including advising on the interpretation and application of financial accounting standards and practice to the Iress Group, contributing to the delivery of monthly, half-yearly and year-end financial reporting, and supporting the completion of Group and subsidiary financial statement reviews and audits.
This is a full time permanent position with a salary range of $85,000 - $90,000 + Super.
Accountabilities and deliverables
- Support the delivery of monthly financial insight and data to enhance decision making and achieve financial goals, including journals, ledger/sub-ledger analysis and reconciliations, delivery of financial reports to business partners, leadership teams, board and external regulators, and ad hoc analysis and reporting
- Support the completion of the annual / half year financial statements and audit for group and APAC subsidiary entities and assist with technical and practical accounting matters. This includes supporting the completion of the listed-entity Interim Report and Annual Report.
- Balance sheet accounting, including working capital maintenance, maintenance of fixed asset registers, accounting for intangibles and capitalised development costs, and management of receivables and payables
- Assist with the group treasury function, including cash flow management, intercompany receivables and payables, transaction funding arrangements and debt management
- Contribute to finance systems knowledge and support, including involvement in system process change and improvement
- Financial analysis and support in relation to business initiatives, restructures and mergers and acquisitions as required
- Keep up to date on changes and developments in accounting standards, guidelines and other reporting requirements relevant to the Group
- Delivery of ad hoc financial analysis and reporting
Core skills, knowledge and attributes
- Relevant tertiary degree (e.g. Bachelor of Commerce/Economics, etc.)
- Professional qualification (e.g. CA, CPA, etc) and/ or post-graduate degree (e.g. Master of Accounting, MBA, etc)
- Previous experience in financial analysis and control. Ability to post general ledger journals, reconcile accounts and apply financial controls.
- Well-developed financial analysis and problem-solving skills
- Technical accounting knowledge, with an ability to apply accounting standards knowledge to real issues
- Computer literacy in Microsoft products, particularly Excel, with experience in Netsuite and Adaptive Insights an advantage.
- A track record of working for a global business with demonstrated ability to adhere to tight deadlines and work under pressure.
- Demonstrated success supporting businesses and providing insight to support decision making and achieve financial goals
- Ability to understand the business and think strategically and commercially
- Strong organisational skills, ability to manage own time and work independently
- Willingness to challenge and question existing practices and drive improvement
- Ability to implement, and monitor robust internal control systems to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and ensure the integrity of financial data
