As a Financial Analyst at Fera Pets, you will help build the analysis behind how this business makes money. Working closely with the Director of Finance, you will help build and maintain our channel-level P&Ls, prepare the Monthly Business Review (MBR) package, produce the monthly rolling forecast, and support the annual budget build — turning a large volume of multi-source data into clear, decision-ready analysis.
ABOUT FERA PETS
Fera Pets is a fast-growing, women-founded pet wellness CPG startup dedicated to revolutionizing the pet care industry through holistic supplements. Our veterinarian and co-founder formulates each supplement to enhance pets’ well-being and promote longevity. Recently acquired by General Mills through their growth equity fund, Fera Pets is positioned for rapid growth. We are seeking a sharply analytical, intellectually curious Financial Analyst to help us turn data into better decisions as we scale.
THE ROLE
As a Financial Analyst at Fera Pets, you will help build the analysis behind how this business makes money. Working closely with the Director of Finance, you will help build and maintain our channel-level P&Ls, prepare the Monthly Business Review (MBR) package, produce the monthly rolling forecast, and support the annual budget build — turning a large volume of multi-source data into clear, decision-ready analysis.
This is a hands-on, deeply analytical role, and Excel is where you will live. You will help build models from scratch, reconcile data across Amazon, Shopify, Chewy, Petco, Walmart, and our retail and distributor partners, and pressure-test the assumptions behind our forecast. You will quantify marketing ROAS and CAC by channel, measure the return on promotional and trade spend, and dig into the drivers of gross margin, including shipping and fulfillment rates and per-unit economics. When a number moves, you are the person who explains why.
You will work closely with Marketing, Operations, and Sales to gather budget inputs, size investments, and model scenarios before decisions are made rather than after. Because we are a small team inside a high-growth brand, you will have unusual visibility — the analysis you produce reaches the founders and our General Mills partners.
This role is distinct from our accounting function. You will partner closely with accounting through month-end close, but your focus is forward-looking: planning, analysis, and decision support. This role reports directly to the Director of Finance, who owns budget strategy, final review of the MBR and forecast assumptions, sign-off on capital and investment decisions, and the direction of our financial systems. You will build the analysis behind those decisions with the Director as your reviewer and sounding board, which means you will get real coaching rather than being handed a mandate on day one. The role is based out of Los Angeles, CA with a hybrid schedule.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Build, maintain, and continuously improve channel-level P&Ls and management reporting across multiple revenue channels: Amazon, DTC, Chewy, Petco, Wholesale, and Distributors
- Pull, clean, and reconcile large datasets from multiple sources — Amazon Seller Central, Shopify, retailer portals, inventory systems, and the general ledger — and resolve discrepancies between platform data and reported financials
- Prepare the Monthly Business Review (MBR) package for the Director of Finance’s review, including variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior year, with draft written commentary that explains drivers rather than restating numbers
- Develop dashboards and recurring reports that give the business self-serve visibility into the KPIs
- Flag manual reporting steps that can be streamlined, and build the automation once priorities are set with the Director of Finance
Planning, Forecasting & Budgeting
- Maintain the monthly rolling forecast and Latest Estimate, working with channel owners to assemble the estimate bottom-up for the Director of Finance to review and finalize
- Prepare the bottoms-up numbers for the annual budget across revenue by channel, marketing investment, gross margin, and operating expense, in support of the Director of Finance, who owns budget strategy and negotiation with department leads
- Run scenario and sensitivity analyses to size risks and opportunities before they land
- Track forecast accuracy over time and share observations and make recommendations
Commercial & Investment Analysis
- Measure marketing performance by channel — ROAS, CAC, contribution margin, payback — and surface a clear, data-backed view of where the next dollar should go
- Evaluate the return on promotional and trade spend and support promotional strategy with data
- Analyze gross margin drivers including COGS, shipping and fulfillment rates, and per-order and per-unit economics by channel
Collaboration & Support
- Work with Marketing, Operations, and Sales to collect budget inputs, track spend against plan, and translate financial results into actions they can take
- Support month-end close by partnering with accounting on accruals, allocations, and reporting tie-out
- Present analysis clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences across the business; materials that go to the founders and our General Mills partners are finalized with the Director of Finance
- Support the rollout of new financial systems, reporting tools, and workflows as the company scales, under the direction of the Director of Finance
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in financial analysis, FP&A, or a comparably analytical role
- Advanced Excel skills are essential to this role. You should be fluent in XLOOKUP and INDEX-MATCH, nested IF and IFS, SUMIFS and COUNTIFS, pivot tables, data validation, and scenario and sensitivity tables, and fully comfortable building a multi-tab financial model from a blank workbook
- Demonstrated ability to work with large, imperfect datasets: cleaning, structuring, reconciling, and drawing defensible conclusions from them. Experience with Power Query, Power Pivot, SQL, or a BI tool such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI is a strong advantage
- Experience supporting P&L models, budgets, or forecasts, whether through day-to-day maintenance, variance analysis, or contributing to a budget cycle
- Strong commercial curiosity: able to move from what happened, to why it happened, to what we should consider doing about it
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-technical audiences
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with the judgment to know when precision matters and when speed matters more
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable operating with shifting priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Working knowledge of GAAP and financial statement mechanics
- US work authorization. Applicants for employment in the US must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in CPG, pet, or e-commerce/DTC is strongly preferred but not required — we welcome strong analysts from adjacent industries
- Experience with QuickBooks Online, SAP, Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, and/or Cin7
- Familiarity with marketplace and retail economics: Amazon FBA fees, co-op spend, and fulfillment costs
- Exposure to inventory, supply chain, or unit-economics analysis
- Experience supporting a Monthly Business Review or a similar recurring operating cadence
- Prior experience in a startup or emerging-brand environment, or in a commercial finance role
- Public accounting, investment banking, or consulting background is a plus
SALARY
$85k – $95k annually, depending on experience, plus a performance-based bonus.
