Position Summary

The Financial Coach leads Mission Ready Finances, InteCare's one-year financial wellness pilot for Veterans and Veteran families enrolled in SSVF. The coach provides eight individual sessions using Money Habitudes to help participants better understand their relationship with money, build financial confidence, and make practical changes that support their goals and long-term housing stability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive and follow up on referrals from SSVF case managers and explain the voluntary program to eligible Veterans and families.
  • Guide each participant through an initial Money Habitudes assessment to identify the habits, attitudes, and experiences influencing financial decisions.
  • Provide seven follow-up coaching sessions using the My Money Habitudes workbook as a guide for discussion, reflection, and practical goal setting.
  • Create a supportive, judgment-free environment where participants can explore how financial patterns developed, when those patterns have helped, and when they may create barriers.
  • Help participants identify realistic changes related to spending, budgeting, savings, credit, debt, banking, income, benefits, and housing-related expenses.
  • Develop participant-led goals and action steps, follow progress, and adjust the coaching plan as needs or circumstances change.
  • Connect participants with reputable financial, employment, benefits, legal, credit-building, and community resources when needs extend beyond the coach's role.
  • Coordinate with case managers and other Veteran Services team members, with appropriate participant consent, so coaching supports the participant's housing stability plan.
  • Conduct participant follow-up after program completion to understand changes in financial knowledge, confidence, and decision-making.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and do not provide legal, tax, investment, lending, or clinical advice outside the position's training and scope.

Grant Data and Reporting Responsibilities

  • Carry out the pilot in accordance with the approved grant plan, timeline, budget, and performance expectations.
  • Track referrals, enrollment, attendance, completed sessions, Money Habitudes progress, participant goals, follow-up contacts, and outcome measures.
  • Maintain accurate and timely participant records in approved systems while protecting privacy and confidential information.
  • Provide the Director of Veteran Services with data, narrative updates, participant feedback, success stories, and supporting documentation for grant reports.
  • Monitor participation and completion trends and identify barriers, lessons learned, and opportunities to improve the pilot.
  • Support grant monitoring, evaluation, audits, and funder requests as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in SSVF, Veteran services, housing stability, case management, financial coaching or education, adult education, or a related human services setting. Relevant postsecondary education, training, certification, or lived experience may be considered in place of some formal work experience.
  • Ability to build trust and discuss personal financial matters with empathy, discretion, curiosity, and respect.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, organization, follow-through, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a participant schedule, maintain
accurate documentation, and meet grant deadlines.
  • Comfort using Microsoft 365 and the ability to learn Money Habitudes, program databases, and reporting tools.
  • Ability to travel within the service area and meet participants in office, community, or other approved settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Veterans, people who have experienced homelessness, or households facing eviction or housing instability.
  • Prior experience within SSVF or another housing stabilization program.
  • Training or certification in financial coaching, financial counseling, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, or adult education.
