Financial Controller – 100% Remote

We are looking for an experienced and highly detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, controls, and the monthly close process across multiple entities. This is a senior-level finance position for someone who can lead accounting teams, maintain high standards of financial accuracy, and provide executives and investors with reliable financial information and insights.

About the Role

You’ll oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting function, ensuring accurate and timely monthly closes across multiple entities. You’ll review the work of Finance Associates and bookkeepers in the U.S. and abroad, coordinate with U.S.-based CPAs, support compliance and investor documentation, and strengthen financial controls and processes. You’ll also work closely with the CFO and company leadership on KPI reporting, financial analysis, and strategic planning. This role requires someone who can operate independently, identify issues before they become problems, and hold the finance team accountable for accurate and timely work.

Responsibilities

• Ensure timely and accurate monthly financial closes across all entities.
• Review financial packages, reconciliations, financial statements, and supporting reports for accuracy and compliance.
• Oversee AP, AR, bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and other accounting activities.
• Review work prepared by Finance Associates and bookkeepers located in the U.S. and abroad.
• Establish accounting standards and processes and hold team members accountable for accuracy and deadlines.
• Collaborate with company owners on legal paperwork, compliance filings, and investor documentation.
• Coordinate with U.S.-based CPAs on tax planning, tax filings, and other accounting matters.
• Serve as a financial liaison for legal and compliance matters related to company operations.
• Oversee KPI dashboards and financial reporting, ensuring data integrity and actionable insights.
• Implement and improve financial controls, accounting policies, procedures, and systems.
• Identify opportunities to increase efficiency and accuracy across financial operations.
• Prepare and provide executives and investors with timely financial reports and updates.
• Provide financial insights to support executive decision-making.
• Collaborate with the CFO on KPI modeling, financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives.
• Ensure financial records and supporting documentation remain accurate, organized, and audit-ready.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in accounting, finance, controllership, or similar roles.
• Experience in real estate, construction, investment management, or related industries is strongly preferred.
• CPA or equivalent accounting qualification is preferred.
• Proven experience managing or overseeing bookkeepers, accountants, Finance Associates, or finance teams.
• Strong understanding of monthly close, AP/AR, reconciliations, bookkeeping, and financial reporting.
• Experience reviewing financial statements and identifying errors, inconsistencies, and areas requiring further investigation.
• Experience working with external CPAs, particularly in a U.S. business environment.
• Strong understanding of financial controls, accounting policies, and process improvement.
• Advanced Excel and/or Google Sheets skills.
• Strong proficiency with accounting software and financial reporting systems.
• Ability to manage financial operations across multiple entities.
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage recurring deadlines and hold team members accountable.
• Strong written and verbal English communication.
• Comfortable communicating financial information to executives, investors, CPAs, and other stakeholders.
• Proactive, process-driven, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

• You have never managed or reviewed the work of other accounting or finance professionals.
• You do not have experience managing monthly close and financial reporting processes.

• You struggle with tight deadlines, accountability, or managing multiple entities simultaneously.
• You are not comfortable communicating directly with executives, CPAs, and other senior stakeholders.
• You require constant supervision to manage financial processes and priorities.
