About KEZA
KEZA has grown since 2006 from a single fabrication facility into a group of companies. The core business is precision manufacturing: HVAC units and components, heavy duty ducting, structural fabrication, LV panels and switchgear. Alongside this the group works in HVAC consulting, turnkey district cooling project management, kitchen ventilation, solar panel and battery fabrication and composite panel manufacturing. We employ around 50 people, we carry no external debt and the manufacturing business runs a 33% adjusted EBITDA margin, which is unusual in our sector.
We are a family owned group entering a period of growth, with new business lines under development. Decisions are made quickly and there are very few layers. The group has grown faster than its systems, and that is the gap this role exists to close.
About the role
We currently have two capable people handling transactional finance. Bank reconciliation, payments, supplier statements and collections. What we do not have is anyone who owns an output.
No one owns the close. No one owns the balance sheet. There is no job costing, no budget, and no written record of how the work is done.
The first six months of this role are a build. After that, you run what you have built and keep improving it. If you are looking for a role where the process already exists and needs maintaining, this is not it.
What you will own
Reporting and close. Daily reconciliation of both bank accounts, petty cash, receivables and payables. A weekly flash every Monday. A full monthly close to IFRS by working day five, moving to working day three within the first year.
Balance sheet integrity. Every line reconciled every month, with supporting schedules.
Job costing. Designed and implemented from nothing. Costed bills of material, material issued against jobs, labor booked to jobs, a defensible overhead absorption basis, and quoted margin measured against actual margin. This is the work that will change how the business prices.
Budgeting and forecasting. An annual budget built bottom up with department heads, followed by a rolling forecast.
Cash flow. A daily cash position, a rolling cash forecast, and active management of working capital across the group.
Multi entity reporting. Consolidation across group companies, intercompany reconciliation and elimination, and a clear view of performance by entity and by business line.
Investment appraisal. Supporting capital expenditure decisions with proper analysis, and reviewing performance against the case after the money is spent.
Tax and audit. VAT returns, corporate tax computation and provision, and ownership of the external audit from planning to sign off.
Management reporting. Daily, weekly and monthly reporting with written commentary. The expectation is analysis and interpretation, not a pack of figures.
Finance procedures manual. A complete end to end set of documented procedures covering governance, order to cash, procure to pay, inventory and costing, fixed assets, record to report, tax, treasury, planning and audit. Written, owned and kept current by you.
Team development. Training and developing the two existing team members, and advising on how the function should grow.
Requirements
- ICAP CA, qualified or finalist, ACCA member, CPA or CMA. Articles completed at a Big 4 or established mid tier firm is strongly preferred.
- Minimum five years in finance, including direct ownership of month end close. Supporting a close is not the same as running one.
- Manufacturing experience is essential. You must have accounted for inventory and work in progress. Without this background the costing work will not succeed.
- Applied knowledge of IFRS.
- Experience in a multi entity or group environment, including consolidation and intercompany accounting.
- Advanced QuickBooks Online, including chart of accounts design, class and project tracking, and integrations for invoicing, expenses and bank feeds. Candidates will be asked which integrations they configured themselves.
- Google Workspace as a primary working environment, including Drive, Sheets, Docs, shared drives, permissions and version history.
- Demonstrable remote working experience, ideally including managing or coordinating colleagues based elsewhere.
- Strong written English. The majority of this role is conducted in writing.
Advantageous: UAE VAT and corporate tax exposure, experience with PEMO or comparable expense platforms, ERP implementation or migration, and audit liaison with UAE firms.
Working arrangements
- Fully remote, working broadly to UAE hours. You will manage two team members based in a different country, so establishing and holding a working cadence is part of the role.
How to apply
Please follow these instructions carefully. Applications that do not follow them will not be reviewed. The ability to work to a written brief is central to this role.
1. Create a folder in your own Google Drive named: Controller Application, [Your Full Name]
2. Place three documents in the folder:
- Your CV in PDF format
- Your written answers to the four questions below
- One page of work you have personally produced, such as a reporting pack, a reconciliation or a costing sheet. Please redact anything confidential.
3. Share the folder with nida.sumar@kezaindustries.com using Viewer access. Please do not send attachments by email, and refrain from sending follow up emails if you do not hear from us, that will only negatively impact your application. Due to volumes, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
4. Email nida.sumar@kezaindustries.com with the subject line exactly as follows: Controller, [Your Full Name], [City]. Include the Drive link in the body of the email and nothing further.
Application questions
Please answer in your own words, approximately 150 to 250 words each. Specific detail is more useful to us than polished general statements.
- Describe a month end close that you ran yourself, day by day, from two days before period end through to sign off. Include one close that did not go to plan and what you changed as a result.
- You join a manufacturer with no job costing in place. What do you begin capturing first, in what order, and why that order?
- You are working remotely and the two people you manage are based in another country. Describe your working week with them, including how you verify that work has been completed.
- Which QuickBooks integrations have you configured yourself? For each, explain what it connected, what problem it addressed, and what issues arose.
Use of AI
AI tools are used across this business and fluency with them is encouraged and expected in the role.
Applications, however, must be your own work. Any application prepared with AI assistance will not be considered. We are assessing how you think and how you communicate. Shortlisted candidates complete a live exercise with the CFO, and material differences between the written application and the live discussion will end the process.
Every application is reviewed directly by the Chief Financial Officer.
