Reporting to the Senior Director Financial Planning & Data Analysis, the Financial Data and Reporting Analyst expands the Mason School’s capacity to maintain accurate, timely, and useful financial and operational reporting. The position is an integral member of the Finance and Administration team and supports data-informed decision-making through data preparation, reconciliation, analysis, reporting, visualization, and documentation.

The analyst maintains recurring financial reports and dashboards, performs budget-to-actual and other variance analyses, responds to routine and ad hoc data requests, and translates results into clear information for technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Working under the functional guidance of the Director Data Analytics, the analyst applies established methodologies while progressively developing the ability to complete more complex analytical work independently.

Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain recurring financial, enrollment, and operational reports used by School leadership and program administrators.
• Extract, combine, clean, reconcile, and validate data from Workday, Banner, customer relationship management systems, and other institutional sources.
• Perform budget-to-actual, revenue, expenditure, enrollment, and trend analyses using established methodologies.
• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, Excel-based analytical tools, visualizations, and supporting documentation.
• Investigate discrepancies, identify data-quality concerns, and coordinate with appropriate partners to resolve issues.
• Prepare concise summaries and presentations that explain material variances, trends, and operational results.
• Document report logic, data definitions, procedures, and recurring reporting calendars to promote consistency and continuity.
• Support process improvement, reporting automation, annual reporting cycles, and larger analytical projects.

Job Description:

  • Experience working with structured data, spreadsheets, reports, or administrative datasets through professional work, internships, academic work, or applied projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data organization, and analytical or reporting functions.
  • Ability to collect, organize, reconcile, validate, and analyze information from multiple sources with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to identify trends and inconsistencies and communicate findings clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple recurring and ad hoc priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding sensitive institutional information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting financial, budget, personnel, or other administrative reporting.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Power Query, Microsoft Fabric, or similar reporting and business-intelligence tools.
  • Experience with Workday, Banner, Slate, Salesforce, Qlik, or comparable enterprise systems.
  • Experience developing dashboards, recurring reports, visualizations, performance measures, or variance analyses.
  • Experience in higher education, government, a nonprofit organization, or another complex organization.
  • Familiarity with data dictionaries, metadata, data governance, relational data, and data-visualization practices.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Continued professional development may be required to maintain proficiency with evolving institutional systems and analytical tools.
  • This position is eligible for up to 1 remote work day per week per the Mason School of Business administration.
