Make a Real Impact in a City Like No Other
Are you an experienced fire safety professional ready to provide expert leadership and make a genuine difference across a complex and distinctive estate?
We’re looking for a Fire Safety Lead to provide professional fire safety leadership and competent advice across the City of London Corporation’s Communities and Children’s Services. You’ll lead fire safety compliance support for new developments, major works and special projects, while advising operational services, estates and colleagues responsible for higher-risk residential buildings.
Why This Role?
- Lead Fire Safety Assurance: Act as DCCS’s competent fire safety adviser, leading audits, inspections and reviews of fire risk assessments and compliance arrangements.
- Shape Safe Projects: Provide specialist fire safety input to new developments, major works and special projects, including design, temporary works and construction-phase controls.
- Turn Findings into Action: Produce clear reports, recommendations and action plans, and support the effective tracking and completion of remedial measures.
- Strengthen Fire Safety Management: Develop and review fire strategies, fire management plans, evacuation procedures, resident information and proportionate golden-thread records.
- Influence and Collaborate: Work with building safety, construction and health and safety colleagues, contractors, residents, enforcing authorities and regulators to achieve practical, compliant outcomes.
What We’re Looking For
- A suitable Level 4 or 5 fire safety qualification, supported by a relevant Level 6 qualification, or the experience and qualification combination set out in the person specification.
- Relevant professional membership at affiliate or technician level, with active progress towards full membership of a fire safety-related professional body.
- Substantial fire safety management experience within a complex organisation or estate, including compliance audits, inspections and fire risk assessment review.
- Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation and standards, including the Fire Safety Order, Fire Safety Act, Building Safety Act and relevant British Standards.
- The ability to apply fire safety principles to building design, construction and occupied buildings, with a sound understanding of active and passive fire protection.
- Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to provide clear, proportionate advice and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Why Join Us?
You’ll join experienced health, fire and building safety colleagues and take a visible professional lead across a varied operational and residential portfolio. The role combines hybrid working with regular travel to estates, workplaces and construction sites. Training and personal protective equipment will be provided where required for site activities.
