Role Description The FOIA Police Cam Requester is a full-time, remote role responsible for obtaining law enforcement video records through formal public records requests. Day-to-day tasks include identifying relevant police departments and agencies, drafting and submitting FOIA and public records requests, and tracking the status of each request. The role involves reviewing responses from agencies, ensuring requested evidence meets project requirements, and maintaining organized documentation and logs. The FOIA Police Cam Requester collaborates with internal teams to understand content needs, manages timelines and follow-ups with law enforcement contacts, and helps resolve issues related to access, redaction, or denial of records. This position requires professionalism in all communications and strict adherence to legal and ethical standards regarding sensitive material.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of law enforcement structures and operations, including Police Officers and Police departments.
  • Knowledge of handling and assessing Evidence, with attention to chain of custody and documentation standards.
  • Familiarity with Criminal Investigations processes and the role of video and records in investigative contexts.
  • Experience or exposure to Law Enforcement environments, public records processes, or related legal procedures.
  • Strong written communication skills for drafting FOIA/public records requests and professional correspondence.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to track multiple requests and meet deadlines.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and ethical judgment in working with sensitive and potentially graphic content.
  • Proficiency with basic office software (spreadsheets, shared drives, email) and online research tools.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Previous experience with public records, legal support, journalism, compliance, or research is preferred.
