Position Summary
The Corporate Healthcare Food Safety Manager supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of food safety programs across Compass Group North America healthcare dining operations. Assigned to a healthcare business sector, this position serves as a trusted food safety partner to associates, unit managers, regional leaders, and sector executives, translating regulatory and corporate requirements into practical solutions that protect patients, associates, and visitors.
The ideal candidate brings healthcare food safety, regulatory compliance, or environmental health experience; sound judgment; and the ability to independently support geographically dispersed operations, including facilities serving highly susceptible populations.
Key Responsibilities
Sector Partnership and Operational Support
· Act as the primary food safety resource for an assigned healthcare sector, building relationships and providing guidance at every level, from new hires and frontline teams through unit, regional, and executive leadership.
· Partner with operations, culinary, clinical teams, Risk Management, Quality Assurance, and corporate stakeholders to establish priorities, communicate risks, and implement practical improvements.
· Support new account transitions, openings, corporate initiatives, technology or equipment evaluations, and enterprise-wide food safety standardization.
· Independently prioritize routine account needs and urgent requests; travel to accounts for assessments, investigations, training, and operational support.
Regulatory Compliance and Incident Response
· Interpret and support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local food safety regulations, including FDA Food Code requirements as adopted locally, as well as relevant healthcare accreditation and facility standards, including The Joint Commission.
· Guide inspection readiness, regulatory responses, corrective actions, and communication with health departments and other agencies.
· Provide timely support for significant food safety events, including regulatory closures, pest activity, foodborne illness concerns, and disruptions to foodservice; assist with operational recovery.
· Investigate suspected foodborne illness, allergen reactions, and other food safety incidents; coordinate documentation, root cause analysis, risk mitigation, and corrective action follow-up.
· Monitor emerging regulations, industry trends, and healthcare food safety risks and communicate relevant changes.
Food Safety Programs and Patient Protection
· Implement and improve corporate food safety policies, procedures, training resources, and HACCP-based programs or preventive controls where applicable.
· Provide technical guidance on sanitation, employee health, time and temperature controls, safe food preparation, storage, transportation, and service.
· Support allergen identification, cross-contact prevention, labeling, dietary restriction communication, high-risk patient tray processes, and investigation of suspected allergic reactions.
· Collaborate with operations and clinical partners on therapeutic diets, specialized dietary needs, and food safety for vulnerable patient populations.
Assessments, Data, and Corrective Actions
· Conduct and support on-site food safety assessments, operational reviews, and targeted evaluations; support internal and third-party audit processes and standardization of assessment tools.
· Analyze assessment results, inspection findings, and incident trends to identify systemic risks and prioritize improvement opportunities.
· Work with operational leaders to develop, track, and verify effective corrective actions; provide targeted support to accounts with recurring issues.
· Ensure accurate incident documentation, investigation, and closure in corporate reporting systems; prepare dashboards, reports, and executive summaries with recommended actions.
Training and Safety Culture
· Develop and deliver education, coaching, webinars, campaigns, and practical resources for new associates, managers, food safety professionals, and regional leadership.
· Build operational accountability and a prevention-focused culture through hazard recognition, prompt reporting, and sustained compliance.
· Collaborate with workplace safety colleagues on shared operational risks and cross-functional initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
Required
· Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Environmental Health, Public Health, Hospitality Management, or a related field; equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered.
· Experience in food safety, regulatory compliance, environmental health, quality assurance, or a related discipline, including assessments, investigations, or corrective action follow-up.
· Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, foodborne illness prevention, and regulatory requirements.
· Ability to analyze data, exercise independent judgment, manage competing priorities, and influence operational partners without direct authority.
· Strong communication and presentation skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to communicate performance findings to leadership.
· Ability to travel to operational locations as business needs require.
Preferred
· Experience in healthcare or hospital foodservice, highly susceptible populations, multi-unit operations, or corporate food safety programs.
· Experience working with health departments or regulatory inspections; knowledge of the FDA Food Code, HACCP, and healthcare accreditation requirements.
· Experience developing training, analyzing assessment results, and presenting recommendations to operational or executive leadership.
· CP-FS (NEHA), REHS/RS, or other recognized food safety credentials
