Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for an innovative, collaborative, and experienced professional scientist to join our research and development team as a scientist. In this mid-level position, you will lead formulation projects for food products, including bars, powdered beverages, and ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages, applying advanced scientific and engineering principles to drive product innovation and optimization. You will provide technical leadership, oversee experimental design and execution, and partner across teams to guide scale-up and validation efforts that support successful commercialization. What You Will Do as a USANA Scientist

  • Lead multiple projects through their entire lifecycle, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and quality standards
  • Design and oversee advanced formulation or process development activities, evaluating performance, stability, and manufacturability
  • Create and revise formulations for bars, powdered beverages, and RTD beverages
  • Oversee pilot batches and troubleshoot production problems, revising formulations to ensure manufacturability
  • Work with vendors to source and utilize novel ingredients that deliver experiential consumer benefits
  • Direct and review technical documentation, including reports, risk assessments, SOPs, and validation protocols
  • Provide expert guidance on complex technical challenges and recommend innovative solutions to support project success
  • Serve as a technical liaison between R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and other stakeholders to facilitate knowledge transfer and operational readiness
  • Mentor and develop junior scientists and analysts, fostering technical excellence and collaborative problem-solving
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and strategic planning within the R&D function

Background and Skills You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in food Science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or pharmaceutical Sciences
  • 5–8 years of formulation and product development experience within the food space, with a strong preference for experience with bar formulation
  • Solid formulation development skills and experimental design knowledge
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills
  • Proven ability to lead multiple projects and collaborate across functions

What Will Make You Standout

  • Experience guiding scale-up and validation efforts from development through commercialization
  • Experience mentoring junior scientists or analysts

This is a hybrid role with regular weekly in-office time in Salt Lake City.
