Founding AI Engineer — Agentic Concierge

Company Description

Melanion Srl, a subsidiary of Melanion Capital, is building an AI-native concierge business in Rome. Our ambition is to create a fully agentic service that understands individual preferences, anticipates needs, and executes complex tasks across travel, dining, experiences, and everyday life.

The principal will be the first user, providing direct feedback and real-world use cases before the service expands to selected clients. We combine the freedom of an early-stage venture with access to an established investment management firm and its professional network.

Role Description

We are looking for a hands-on technical builder to turn this ambition into a working product. This is a full-time founding role based in Rome, with flexibility for remote working.

You will design and build agents that can move from understanding a request to researching options, coordinating providers, and completing tasks—with appropriate user approvals. The challenge extends beyond generating recommendations: the system must take action, handle exceptions, retain useful context, and earn users’ trust.

Working directly with the principal, you will own the initial product and technical development. You will choose the stack, ship prototypes, test them against real requests, and develop a service that can support paying clients. Early work will include manually investigating workflows and resolving failures so that you can identify what to automate and how.

As the business develops, you will help shape its commercial model, recruit a technical team, and grow into a broader technology and product leadership role.

Responsibilities

• Build an end-to-end agentic concierge, from conversational interface to task execution.
• Connect agents to email, calendars, messaging, booking platforms, payments, and service providers through APIs and browser automation.
• Develop persistent preference profiles and contextual memory to personalise the service.
• Implement permissions, spending limits, approval flows, and audit trails for consequential actions.
• Build evaluations, monitoring, and recovery mechanisms so that workflows perform reliably in real-world conditions.
• Work directly with early users, translate feedback into product decisions, and ship improvements quickly.
• Own technical choices while managing latency, infrastructure costs, security, and maintainability.
• Help turn a working product into a scalable business with a clear customer proposition.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering skills and evidence of products, tools, or ambitious side projects you have built and shipped.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, tool calling, agent workflows, APIs, and automation.
• Proficiency in Python or TypeScript, with the ability to build across backend systems, integrations, and a functional user interface.
• A practical understanding of where agents succeed, where they fail, and how to test their behaviour.
• Strong product judgment: you care about whether a task gets completed successfully and whether the experience is useful.
• Comfort with ambiguity, rapid experimentation, and taking responsibility from idea through deployment.
• Curiosity about new technology, paired with the judgment to choose simple solutions when they work.
• Professional English; Italian is an advantage.
• Experience with travel technology, payments, browser automation, or consumer products is welcome. Luxury hospitality experience is not required.
