Founding Edge Engineer – Nexus Box

(Think: I am the person who can turn a humble HP T630 thin client into a mini data-center for labs.)

Job Description

Mediverse runs on a two-tier architecture:

1. Nexus Box – an Ubuntu-powered edge device that speaks RS-232, ASTM, HL7, TCP/IP, and DICOM to lab instruments even when the internet disappears.

2. Cloud Platform – syncs the data once connectivity returns and layers on analytics, billing, and AI.

Your mission is to own everything inside the Box:

• Harden and automate the Ubuntu image (PXE or USB) so a new device is lab-ready in < 60 minutes.

• Design and maintain a Docker-orchestrated services cluster.

• Build parsers & connectors for any weird proprietary protocol a haematology analyzer throws at you.

• Implement robust offline-first sync with Yjs/Automerge CRDTs and our backend.

• Ship OTA updates with zero downtime; log / metrics pipeline must survive power cuts.

• Leave breadcrumbs: Excellent docs, shell scripts, and CI workflows that any future engineer can use.

You’ll be employee # <10, working with the founder directly (hey there 👋) and shaping Mediverse’s core IP from Day 0.

Requirements

• 4 + years building and operating Linux-based edge/IoT platforms.

• Fluency in Docker & Compose.

• Advanced-level knowledge of Javascript (Node JS expertise)

• Basic understanding of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocols - GATT protocol

• Solid scripting in Bash (bonus: one systems language - Go, or Python is nice).

• Networking chops: VLANs, static routing, reverse proxies (Traefik/Caddy/Nginx), TLS, VPN (Tailscale).

• Comfort with serial ports, USB, TCP/IP, and packet sniffers (Wireshark, Logic).

• Experience shipping production-grade CI/CD for embedded or remote-fleet devices.

• Security mindset—crypto basics, least-privilege, SBOMs, partitioned firewalls.

• Strong written communication; you can turn tribal knowledge into markdown that survives you.

Nice-to-haves: ASTM/HL7/FHIR know-how, is aware of the existence of CornerstoneJS, iinkJS, ElectronJS.
