ZeroFold is a sovereign deep-tech startup focusing on deterministic, training-free large language model (LLM) compression and runtime technology designed for edge execution. We are the builders of the QTensor inference engine, which enables advanced AI models to run efficiently on resource-constrained devices without relying on extensive retraining pipelines. ZeroFold’s work sits at the intersection of systems engineering, AI infrastructure, and edge computing, offering opportunities to solve high-impact performance and reliability challenges.
Role Description
As a Founding Systems Engineer at ZeroFold, you will design, build, and maintain the core systems that power our QTensor LLM compression and edge runtimes. You will be responsible for architecting and implementing system components, integrating runtime frameworks, and ensuring stable, performant operation across diverse hardware environments.
Compensation & Reality:
This is a founding, pre-seed role. Compensation is currently delivered strictly via an Employee Share Option Plan (sweat equity / ESOP) with a standard vesting schedule, until our upcoming seed round is cleared. We are looking for someone who is hungry to build frontier AI and own a piece of the architecture from day zero. This is a hybrid role based in Australia, with a mix of on-site collaboration and work-from-home flexibility.
Qualifications
- Strong Systems Engineering and Systems Design skills to architect, implement, and scale core infrastructure and runtimes.
- Hands-on experience with System Administration and Technical Support to manage environments, deployments, and user-facing issues.
- Proficiency in Troubleshooting complex system behavior, performance bottlenecks, and reliability problems in distributed or resource-constrained settings.
- Solid programming skills in languages commonly used for systems work (e.g., C/C++, Rust, Go), and familiarity with Linux-based environments.
- Experience with cloud and edge computing platforms, containerization, and CI/CD tools for building and deploying runtime systems.
- Knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure or runtime systems for LLMs or other models is highly beneficial.
- Ability to work in a founding team setting, including ownership of projects, cross-functional collaboration, and clear technical communication.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
