Title: Software Simulation Engineer Unreal Engine

Seniority : Senior

Location: France - Nice (hybrid)

The Position

We value intelligence and attitude over knowledge of specific technologies. But, as we are looking for an experienced Software Engineer (at least 5+ years of software programming experience), we would expect your background to be closely aligned with the main qualifications below.

Main Responsibilities

We are building a new NiDAR simulator that uses Unreal Engine 5.x for the 3D rendering engine and physics, and we are looking for a senior Unreal Engineer to lead and contribute to the development.

  • Build realistic, geo-referenced 3D environments and physics-driven drones, vehicles and vessels and including effectors such as cannons, missile launchers, lasers.
  • Simulate camera sensors (EO and thermal, pan/tilt/zoom) and stream their video out of the engine into our C2 platform.
  • Integrate the simulator with our software, together with our backend team.
  • Keep us on the latest engine releases and prepare the transition to UE6.
  • Provide support and mentorship, commit to timelines, estimate accurately and assess risks.

Requirements

  • Current, hands-on professional experience with Unreal Engine 5 and its recent releases (we start on UE 5.8)
  • Strong C++ in Unreal, and fluent Blueprints
  • Real-time physics (Chaos) and vehicle or flight dynamics
  • Rendering and cameras: materials, post-process, Scene Capture and render targets
  • Capturing and streaming rendered video out of Unreal (e.g. Pixel Streaming, GStreamer, RTSP)
  • Profiling and performance optimisation
  • GIT, comfortable on Windows and Linux (and MacOS, ideally)
  • Closely following Unreal's evolution, including the UE6 roadmap (Verse, Scene Graph)

Bonus Points for…

  • Python and/or Golang
  • Military or defence simulation, tactical games, flight or vehicle simulators
  • External physics engines
  • 3D content creation or modification
  • Geospatial and large worlds (Cesium for Unreal, Large World Coordinates)
  • Thermal/IR sensor simulation
  • Synthetic data generation for Machine Learning
  • AI-assisted Unreal workflows (Unreal MCP)
  • Docker, CI/CD
  • DIS/HLA, Omniverse

Education

We prefer at least bachelors degree level in a science or engineering discipline. Masters or PhD advantageous.

The Work Environment

  • Development on Macs and Ubuntu: We're pragmatic so realise we also have to work with Windows occasionally… and for Unreal, we might work more on Windows.
  • Small team: Embracing modern development practices. New ideas are always encouraged and we'll try most things, but we always settle on what works for us.
  • Diverse team: Our team is very multicultural including a mix of experienced engineers, successful sales and project managers balanced with the brightest young graduates.
  • Passionate: We are passionate and enjoy what we do!

Integration and interfacing

Our core activity is safety and security applications. We're bringing the latest web technologies to real-world hardware i.e. we don't work in the cloud. We interface with very diverse equipment: radar, sonar, thermal imaging, drones, software-defined radios and more. Our UI runs on touchscreen displays, tablets, phones, smart-glasses...

Challenges

If you are looking for an easy job, this isn't it. We operate in mission critical environments. Our systems can operate at sea and high security areas with limited connectivity to the data center. So, all your assumptions about cloud development techniques and operating environments will be constantly challenged. Timelines are strict, and creativity is often required to solve unexpected technical issues. It can be extremely diverse, interesting, and rewarding if you are up to the challenge!
