Job Description This is a remote position. The Opportunity Our client is seeking a Staff Accountant who shares its vision for Great Commission ministry in countries that are difficult to reach. The ideal candidate will bring strong non-profit accounting expertise, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset to support accurate financial reporting and operational excellence. This is a Contract position working 10-15 hours per week. Position Overview The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of our client’s financial reporting. This role is responsible for posting donation and other revenue, tracking restricted cash balances, issuing travel invoices, supporting audit activities, reviewing monthly financial reports and documenting key processes. This Contractor must be able to work flexibly, adapt effectively to changing circumstances, and be a team player, capable of fostering strong working relationships across departments. This role requires staying informed of key financial activities such as revenue trends, budget variances, cash flow planning, leadership reporting, and systems enhancements. Key stakeholders include the Financial Controller, Bookkeeper, Leadership Team, donors, and auditors. This role is accountable to the Controller. Location & Commitments Remote fractional Contract position in a virtual workforce. Competitive contractor compensation negotiated, in consideration of qualifications. Must be able to provide support during normal business hours. Essential Areas of Responsibility Revenue, Receivables & Cash Forecasting Ensure integrity of Fund Accounting by tracking Restricted & Unrestricted donations Monitor release of restrictions through program allocations and other spending Post donated non-cash assets as revenue Respond to donor and staff communications regarding restrictions or grant proposals Assist with cash reserve forecasting Review annual giving statements for accuracy and correct taxpayer information Track trip expenses and invoice donors who travel with our client on ministry assessment trips Post all investment transactions and related other income to accounting system Assist with annual operating budget process Finance Operations Review monthly department manager reports for variances and trend analysis Provide supporting documentation to the external auditor, as needed Prepare some schedules for IRS Form 990 Document finance procedures in alignment with organizational policy Identify and implement improvements in financial reporting and processes Periodically update finance procedures in alignment with organizational policy Comply with all policies and procedures, especially document retention Key Deliverables The Staff Accountant will be expected to ensure the following key elements are delivered: Accurate and timely monthly financial reporting, especially restricted cash Clean and audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation Well-documented and consistently followed accounting procedures Recommendation for improvement of financial processes and reporting automation Consistent awareness of broader financial activities for informed decision-making Requirements Role Requirements Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in a non-profit accounting or finance role Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Understanding of non-profit accounting required Solid understanding of GAAP accounting preferred High level of personal organization with capacity for multiple work streams and ability to manage competing priorities Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy and ability to pivot when necessary Effective communication and collaboration skills Experience supporting budgeting and audit processes Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Slack and accounting systems (ERP experience preferred) Ability to learn new technology systems quickly and understand automations A heart for evangelism, particularly in the 10/40 window Agreement with our client’s Statement of Faith (Lausanne Covenant) Benefits If you are passionate about ministry, financial stewardship, and accounting, we invite you to apply for the Staff Accountant role.
