We're seeking an experienced Senior Android Developer to join a newly formed product team focused on delivering innovative insurance and flexibility solutions used by millions of customers worldwide. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping customer experiences, driving architectural decisions, and delivering impactful mobile solutions within a highly collaborative engineering environment.

About the Role

You'll join a product team responsible for enhancing customer-facing experiences focused on:

• Car Hire Insurance products that help customers protect their journeys.
• Accommodation Flexibility products that provide greater freedom when plans change.
• New mobile experiences designed to increase customer engagement and conversion.
• Large-scale mobile applications serving customers globally.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver End-to-End Solutions

• Build and deliver Android features from concept through production.
• Collaborate closely with Android, iOS, and backend engineering teams.
• Contribute across the full software development lifecycle.

Lead Technical Direction

• Drive technical decision-making.
• Lead architecture and design discussions.
• Produce high-quality technical documentation, including RFCs, ADRs, and design proposals.

Maintain Production Excellence

• Monitor application stability and performance.
• Investigate incidents and resolve complex production issues.
• Ensure high standards of reliability and user experience.

Improve Performance & Quality

• Profile applications and identify performance bottlenecks.
• Implement monitoring, testing, and performance metrics.
• Maintain excellent code quality and test coverage standards.

Collaborate Across Functions

• Partner with Product Managers, Designers, QA specialists, and Engineers.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Participate in experimentation, feature evaluation, and release planning.

Mentor & Support Others

• Help onboard new team members.
• Share knowledge and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Support the growth and development of fellow engineers.

Required Skills & Experience

✅ 6+ years of Android development experience

✅ Expert-level Kotlin development

✅ Strong hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose

✅ Deep understanding of:

• Kotlin Coroutines
• Flow
• Structured Concurrency
• Asynchronous Programming
• Threading and Testing

✅ Modern Android architecture expertise:

• MVVM / MVI
• Jetpack ViewModel
• Navigation Components
• Hilt / Dagger

✅ Strong testing experience:

• Unit Testing
• Compose Testing
• Espresso Testing
• Screenshot Testing

✅ Experience with:

• API design and integration
• Backend software concepts
• Multi-module Gradle projects
• Android profiling and performance optimisation
• A/B testing and release planning

✅ Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

✅ Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal

Desirable Experience

• GraphQL
• Federated architectures
• Kotlin Multiplatform
• Google Play Store app releases
• Large-scale distributed systems
• AWS or other cloud-based environments
• Passion for exploring and adopting new technologies
