About the Company
Our client is a fast-growing North American freight brokerage providing over-the-road transportation solutions across Canada and the U.S.
The company supports customers in industries including food and beverage, steel, building materials and other commercial freight sectors.
As the business continues to expand, they are looking for an experienced Freight Sales Executive with a proven ability to prospect, win and develop new shipper accounts.
This is a new-business sales position, not a traditional account servicing or freight operations role.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a proven freight sales hunter who knows how to identify prospective shippers, reach decision-makers, negotiate transportation solutions and close profitable new business.
You'll own the full sales cycle, from cold prospecting and relationship development through closing and growing your own portfolio of customers.
The ideal candidate has already demonstrated success acquiring net-new shipping customers within the freight brokerage or transportation industry and is motivated to continue building their book of business.
This is an entrepreneurial opportunity for someone who enjoys the hunt, thrives on commission-based earnings and wants to take ownership of their results.
What You'll Do
- Prospect, acquire and close net-new shipper accounts across Canada and the U.S.
- Build your own pipeline through cold calling, direct outreach, referrals, networking and targeted prospecting.
- Identify and engage decision-makers, including Transportation Managers, Logistics Managers, Supply Chain leaders, Procurement executives and C-level contacts.
- Manage the full B2B sales cycle, from initial outreach and discovery through quoting, negotiation, closing and account development.
- Sell freight brokerage solutions across FTL, LTL and over-the-road transportation.
- Develop new enterprise accounts and turn them into profitable, long-term customer relationships.
- Use prospecting and CRM platforms such as HubSpot and ZoomInfo to manage opportunities and sales activity.
- Maintain consistent follow-up throughout longer sales cycles, including opportunities requiring multiple touchpoints.
- Collaborate with operations and carrier teams to ensure successful execution after closing new business.
- Track pipeline development, new customer acquisition, revenue and gross profit.
- Occasionally travel to meet customers and strengthen business relationships as accounts develop.
What We're Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- 2+ years of freight sales or freight brokerage experience, ideally in a new-business development role.
- Demonstrated success personally prospecting, acquiring and closing new shipper/customer accounts.
- Experience building a book of business through outbound sales rather than primarily managing an inherited portfolio.
- Strong knowledge of the North American freight and transportation market.
- Experience managing the full B2B sales cycle, including cold outreach, discovery, quoting, negotiation and closing.
- Strong prospecting, relationship-building and negotiation skills.
- A hunter mentality, with the persistence to pursue opportunities through multiple touchpoints.
- Ability to work independently, manage your own pipeline and consistently pursue new revenue opportunities.
- Strong commercial awareness of freight pricing, margins and profitability.
- Comfortable working in a performance-driven, commission-based sales environment.
- Ability to travel occasionally within Canada and the U.S., with the required travel documentation.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada without employer sponsorship.
Strongly Preferred
- Experience selling for a non-asset-based freight brokerage or 3PL.
- Proven track record of generating net-new freight revenue or gross profit.
- Experience selling FTL, LTL, cross-border or specialized freight solutions.
- Experience prospecting enterprise shippers and negotiating transportation agreements.
- An established network of shipper contacts or a demonstrated ability to build one.
- Experience with HubSpot, ZoomInfo or similar CRM and sales prospecting platforms.
- Experience selling into industries such as food and beverage, manufacturing, steel or building materials.
Important: This opportunity is primarily focused on new customer acquisition. Candidates whose experience is predominantly carrier sales, dispatch, freight operations or servicing existing accounts without direct shipper acquisition experience may not be the right fit.
Compensation
Base Salary: $65,000–$90,000 CAD, depending on experience and demonstrated sales production.
Commission: Approximately 10% standard commission, uncapped, with additional flexibility for highly experienced producers.
Expected Total Earnings: Established performers can reasonably build toward approximately $120,000–$140,000+ annually, depending on production.
For experienced freight sales professionals with an established book of business or a strong track record of generating new revenue, the company is open to discussing a more competitive compensation structure.
Benefits: Dental, vision, extended health, life insurance and paid time off.
Location & Work Arrangement
This opportunity is open to qualified candidates anywhere in Canada.
Candidates in the Greater Toronto Area who can work on a hybrid basis are preferred, although remote arrangements are available for experienced freight sales professionals who demonstrate strong production and independence.
The role may involve occasional customer visits across Canada and the U.S., particularly as new accounts develop.
What Makes Someone Successful Here?
You'll likely thrive in this role if you:
- Love hunting for new business and winning new customers.
- Have personally built a freight customer portfolio through prospecting and closing.
- Are comfortable cold calling, handling objections and following up persistently.
- Know how to identify profitable freight opportunities and turn prospects into long-term customers.
- Are motivated by commission, revenue growth and measurable sales results.
- Enjoy working independently and taking ownership of your pipeline.
- Have an entrepreneurial mindset and treat your book of business like a business within a business.
- Want to join a growing freight brokerage where strong performance creates meaningful earning potential.
